:garrett:ANYBODY KNOW IF THE GARRETT 1500 HAS ANY GREAT DEPTH:shrug:

I have heard that it is a decent middle of the road detector. depth is likely also middle of the road.

Several years ago, I owned a Garrett GTP 1350 (the little brother to the 1500) and it had good depth but the detector itself was a bit heavy and I ended up trading it off for a Minelab X-terra and haven't looked back since. The Garrett detectors are good detectors but they are heavy compared to others on the market, such as the X-terra's. In my mind, the X-terra's have better depth and they're much lighter to swing for several hours at a time. Oh ...... the X-terra's are less expensive than the Garrett GTI and GTP series, as well. Another plus to owning the X-terra's is that you can change frequencies by changing coils. You can't do that with the Garrett machines mentioned above.

I have the Garrett GTP1350,and it has picked single#6 shot out of shot shells at 6-8 inches.I dont know about the 1500,though.

That is supposed to be a good machine, jI think it was Garrett's top model for a while. I have heard it is heavy but well balanced. Good depth. I would recommend, the Xterra 705 or AT Pro, light, good depth and both hunt well. I am seeing slightly used AT Pros for between $500 and $600 with a couple at $350 and $450. Not sure why folks are selling for so little, it is a good machine. (also seeing the Xterras for the about same money)

Good luck
Jeff
