I just aquired this detector and want to know what people have to say about it. Only other detectors ive ever owned were a whites 6000 di pro plus and a spectrum xlt e series but never a garrett. How does it compare? Havent had much time to try it out yet but was wondering if there are any tips or tricks to this one. It came with 3 search coils one is a crossfire 8-1/2" one is a crossfire 12-1/2" and the other is a hot head 10". Thanks

Welcome to the forum!:wave:This is a wonderful community and a great place to share info!:garrett::detecting:
I have the CXll as well as the CXlll and original Grand Master Hunter.
That 8.5" Crossfire search coil is the best for general coinshootin' and all-around performance. That 12.5" is good for cache huntin' or even deep coin searchin' as long as there's not too much junk/trash in the area.
I have one o'those HotHead search coils. Never really use it. It's okay.
My favorite search coil for those machines is the 5"x10" DD Crossfire, but they haven't been made in years and are hard to find.
I suggest that you pick up a 4.5" Super Sniper search coil. Great for use in trashy areas and/or tot-lots. Just make sure it's the Crossfire, NOT the Crossfire ll. Different connector/won't work.

Feel free to ask for advice at anytime. Happy Hunting!:)

Just wondering if i should sell this and buy an ace 250 or 350 i know this one with all the extras and original box and manual will bring right at 300 or a little more but dont want to make the mistake of selling it if its going to be a great detector. But would like the ease of the others stated.

Hey Hillbilly,

I have had both the ACE and the Grand Master Hunter CX's. The CX's will certainly out perform the ACE mainly because you can ground balance the machine. I dug a men's silver ring at between 10-12" with my CXIII (older style analog meter). I think the newer GTA proformance series coils would be the best performing. The only problem with the CX's is they are a little awkward when swinging the unit. You will need to get the Garrett arm cuff for better balance.

Hope this helps...
