Garrett Infinium -why is it totally ignored at Garrett? *N/T*

....fact is that gold prospecting is just a very tiny, esoteric part of the metal detecting hobby, which itself is a very tiny and esoteric hobby in the greater scheme of things. I think Garrett may still be "testing the waters" so to speak before they go full-blown into production or promotion of the Infinium. And although it may prove to be a great machine with a great following, it will never be a match to the "standard line" of hobby detectors as far as corporate finances or profits for Garrett are concerned.
Give 'em time. We'll be seeing and hearing alot more in the near future.........

Here in the Western states of the U.S. where the gold is found, it's easy to get the impression that gold prospecting is a big chunk of the hobby. And, in a lot of the West, it is. But in the overall picture, it's not a huge chunk.
When White's released the GMT, which was a totally new platform with new features that hadn't been seen before, I watched the forum to see the reaction. Virtually nothing. I finally decided that if nobody was posting anything, people must like it, because otherwise they'd be posting complaints.
But when the DFX and MXT were introduced, the forum lit up like an Arizona forest fire.
Same thing with the Fisher Goldstrike. Very few posts. But when a few more Coinstrikes get out there, I expect there'll be plenty of forum action.

I think you are absolutely right Dave!, I think this one is a real sleeper and a few have discovered that...Geo

Dave,
Are you saying that people are complaining about the MXT? So far the posts I've read on it have been favorable because of the lower freq., so it will have the ability to handle mineralized soil and go a little deeper than the GMT. Could you clarify for me?
Randy Seden

Yeah their security division far exceeds their hobby division but I think they are coming along with this new Infinium. I still haven't had a chance to get out with it much but think it will deliver the goods. Waiting for my buddy Jim Straight to get out with his in Nevada and the So Cal gold areas and see how it does.

That should happen with the Infinium when Garrett gets into full production. The first models off the line went to field testers ( myself included ) all around the country. I don't even know if they are on dealer's shelves yet.

When the GMT, a gold-only machine, came out over a year ago, there were virtually no posts on the forums about it. At first I wondered if people liked it or not. I finally decided that if people didn't like it, they'd have blasted it in the forums, so apparrently it was a good product.
I think it was, but y'know, ..... I might be accused of some bias on that.
The MXT is a multipurpose machine and it has generated quite a bit of forum action on Treasure Depot, but not a lot elsewhere that I've seen. The posts have been quite favorable.
My point was that if gold-only machines generate very little forum action in comparison to other products from the same manufacturer, that could be taken as an indication that gold machines are not a big chunk of the market.

Yeah Dave the vast majority of detectors are sold for the old reliable coinshooter. If the manufacturers had to rely on the other factions in the hobby to survive they would have gone broke long ago.

I have found that most of the people who detect for gold either do not have a computer or do not see these forums. I run into people out detecting in Arizona and California all the time who say they have no interest in ever having a computer. So that is a big reason you don't see too many post from gold seekers.
GARY

That applies to anyone who owns a detector for whatever reason. The people on the forums are like a grain of sand in the Sahara in the scheme of things. We often think we are the big picture when in reality we are just one brush stroke. HAA.
