Garrett Infinium

Thinking of a G. Inf. what is your thoughts on the subject Have a PI Pro but always looking for something better Pros and Cons are appreciated

Infinium is deeper than PI PRO. Much more sensitive than other beach PI's. So for beach use you actually have to de-tune it as it was made for prospecting.

Hi,

Pros - as a ground balancing PI unit handles certain ground conditions better than a non-ground balancing unit. Totally submersible with optional underwater headphones. One of the few underwater units with interchangeable coils. Reasonably priced.

Cons - Can be very noisy in some saltwater environments and very susceptible to electrical interference.

I have the Infinium and really like it!!! I use the 8" mono coil and have no issues running it in bad black sand on the N.E. Coast!

There were stability issues with the first generation units, however over the years Garrett has had some upgrades that have it working better I'm told.

I spend time ground balancing it in bad areas and because of this have it punching hard on targets!

I really like my machine and do well with it. This detector will find thin gold bands real deep that others have missed!

I still use both my VLF and PI for wet sand and surf, but only the PI in deeper water where it works best.

Hope this helps, thanks!!!

really working like advertised...hi-low for gold?? what i mean, can you separate tones between hi-low and low- hi and how accurate tone ID in depth??
Thanks.

If you use the hi-low tones AND the "reverse disc" with the iron check, you will dig much less trash. Sometimes I only dig the hi-low signals and go only for gold tones. I can cover alot of ground this way. Once you get used to the tones in conjunction with the other features, you will start pulling up missed targets! Let me say this, the machine DOES have a learning curve, not a turn-on-and-go machine or for beginners!!! I would not recommend it as an only water machine. I use this in combo with my BHID and CZ20 and it's perfect like this. This machine is best in the water and working hunted out locations (great for sanded-in areas and when few signals are happening)!

Thanks!

William1,

Garrett now has new coils that have improved the stability of the Infinium, it has made a HUGH difference in the performance.

The key is to make sure you get a unit with the newer coils Garrett is now producing and the only way to make sure that happens is to purchase direct from Garrett and make sure you have the upgraded coils. If not you may get a unit that has been with a dealer for awhile and then you wonder why you may be getting interference and erratic tones. You will then send it back to Garrett and they will swap the coils out at no charge and you will see a major difference in the performance.
Another couple things, the learning curve for the infinium is more than a regular PI, ground balancing is the first major key, and knowing that you may need to stop and re balance the unit as the ground conditions change in the lock mode. The Infinium also has a slow and fast track option that allows the unit to adjust to the ground conditions. Also check this link, http://www.findmall.com/read.php?34,674914,680518#msg-680518 for a frequency balance procedure that has helped many users with the older version coils. also join the Infinium p 2 p forum where you can learn more about tips from other users. This helped me make up my mind and I had a edge on how to operate the Infinium before I used it. Also go to Steve Herschbach's site and read his reviews. But the one thing to remember is Garrett finally got with it and made some changes to there coils that Steve had recommended years ago and this has really helped.

Good Luck in your choice.
