Hi Guys, Today was the day. I Md for about 4 hrs. About 10 bucks in Clad, The dollar bill beeped as a hundred. Damn!!! it lied to me. It was just lying on top of the grass. The Car beeped as a dime. They always do, So far I found 7. The Australian Penny, I thought was cool . It is big for a Penny 1952 :spin:. I'm sure it fell out of somebody's pocket since it was just lying on top of the grass. Now for my moment of greatness. It beeped as a dime so I bent down to poke and shazaam!!! Then it popped out, a big size silver ring that probably belonged to a giant because it is super loose on my thumb. :yikes: It says 329.
I did my little dance and put it away, 20 seconds later I found that little ring, it beeped as a nickel so I thought it was gold but nope, it is a cheapis but still nice looking after I cleaned it. It was super rusty and dirty. Now it looks much better. it was a great day for this newbie. I hope you guys have a great weekend!!!!

Sorry, but I don't think that ring is silver. I have never seen a silver ring that big hit on dime. Plus I have never seen that mark on silver. Is there any other marks? Is there a period before the numbers? It is nice. Just trying to help.

Sorry, is either 729 or 725. More probably 729. No three here but I'm sure 100 percent this baby is silver.

Thanks Paul(NWO)!!!

Good to see you found a little bit of Australia & it"s in good nick to :ausflag:. The ring is probably 925 with worn numbers i get quite a few with worn & miss stamped numbers.

Now we are talking. What looks like a 7 is probably a worn 9. Nice. If you don't have one already, buy a loupe. They are a must for looking at marks on jewelry.

Yeah with all the foreign jewelry coming into this country it's hard to keep track of their markings. I liked the old days when it said Sterling or it didn't.

Great ring. Consider getting a jewelry scale and a decent loop of at least 20x. It can make short work of worn markings. The mark is probably 925. There are a few other somewhat common silver stamps. 900, 999, 800, 875. Some countries also mark gold with numbers rather than carats so there is that to consider too. 375 for 9k, 585 for 14k. If you can get a photo of the mark you might also be able to mess around using a photo editor to bring out more detail. It sure looks like silver in the photograph. I have a jar of silver cream that I use to polish silver. I have tried it to polish brass and gold and a few other metals and on anything but silver it doesn't do much. Silver it really spiffs up. If I find a piece of jewelry that I am unsure about that is how I test it.
