hello all. i had recently found an 1853 half dime in a farmer's field along with many civil war relics. i hadn't met the man yet, but had already gotten permission to hunt his land. after the 3 hour hunt, i decided to hang around at my sister's house and wait for him to get out of church. we met up, i showed him everything i had found, filling up his tailgate. he was amazed at what i had found; and told me it was nice, for once, to see the things that were recovered from his land. it seems a few others had hunted the old place, but had never shown or given anything to the old man. i had already offered at the outset anything i had found. he refused, but i knew he liked the half dime. it's quite possible one of his ancestors had lost it, and we both knew it.
talk about karma... just last weekend, i decided to walk about a quarter mile up the road to a smaller parcel of land that he owned with a small sharecropper's house on it... and lo and behold, guess who was checking their mail at the very moment i walked by his house? it had been about a month and a half since we had talked. we greeted each other, and he asked me if i still had that old half dime, that he would like to have it. he offered me a fair amount of money for it, but i refused any pay, telling him that frank and i appreciated the fact that he allowed us to detect his land almost unrestricted. sure enough, i took the half dime to him and his wife the next sunday. they really liked that.
unknown to frank or myself at the time, it opened up more opportunities for us in the immediate area. it immediatley established a better rapport with the landowner and his wife... and come to find out, got even more acres of land to hunt! word really does get around about such deeds. this winter is gonna be interesting. i'm glad that i did give it back.
so, contrary to popular belief, gg really does share his finds! thanks for reading this account, and hh!

Cause and effect-you WILL find something to replace it. It may not be as good as the warm feeling you've experienced-that's irreplaceable.

I got permission to hunt an old farmhouse...

Out front by the old tall oak tree at least 150 years old I came upon two solid hits. Two quick recovery's later I pulled out two 1950's quarters. Also pulled out an old barn nail and some trash. The owner and his son came over after a bit and asked how I was doing. I showed them my finds and calling ti a day I flipped each one of the quarters.

A smile on the son's face, a grin on the Dad's and I said I'm keeping the nail and the bottle caps. He called over as I walked away. Feel free to come back anytime and hun my Dad's property across the way there. It's an older Victorian and in a few day's I plan to give the grounds a shot. Best silver investment I ever made...
