GB Tracking Offset in X-Terra 705

I am getting a 705 for my wife and have been in discussion with others about some of the features, this question came up on GB Tracking Offset

I will preface this with the fact I have not had my hands on the 705 as of yet but reading the manual seems to state:

To use Ground Balance Offset you must already be in Ground Balance Tracking.

To enter into Ground Balance Tracking as I understand it you must:

1. Either auto or manual ground balance
2. Press Tracking and then you are in tracking mode
3. Then return to detection screen

To enter into Ground Balance Tracking Offset:

1. You must be in the Ground Balance Tracking mode already
2. Select Ground Balance
3. Press accept reject to enter offset
4. Ground Balance icon will flash and offset number is displayed
5. Press + or - button to adjust
6. Press accept or reject to save settings
7. Press GB button or Pinpoint Detect button to return to detections screen

The Ground Balance offset is there for manually offseting the the value of the normal tracking value according to your desire.

Now I may be totally confused on this but this is what sense I make from the manual. If anyone can either confirm this for me or correct the proceedure I would appreciate it.

Pretty close. Actually, you don't really need to ground balance the detector either automatically or manually to implement Tracking Ground Balance Offset. Since you have to be in the Tracking mode for it to work, Tracking itself will take care of the balancing.

Put the 705 in Tracking - Press GB pad - Press Accept/Reject Pad - set the level of offset you desire with - / + pads - press Accept/Reject to save the offset value and return to GB mode - Press either GB pad or Detect pad to return to the hunt.

One thing to keep in mind, Offsetting the X-TERRA GB is backward from what you may have done on other detectors in that you make a positive offset by lowering the ground phase number. In other words, I want to hunt with a positive offset of 3, I will press the Accept/Reject pad and then press the - pad three times. Then I will press the Accept/Reject again, then the GB or Detect pad. By lowering the ground balance number (actually the ground phase), I am setting the detector to hunt with a positive ground balance. Tracking keeps up with mineralization changes and (in my example) the offset keeps me set three "clicks" more positive than what the electronics would have normally chosen.

You are really close. I would get onto mlotv and watch Kevin Hoaglands video on setting up the 705 for prospecting mode. He sows you exactly how to operate the ground balance offset. It is very informative. Watch Des's video on coin shooting as well regarding target id stablization feature. On a target i.d. (tid) sometimes the number will jump around and you can push a button and hold it down till a plus symbol appears at top left and it will average out which tid # it most likely is. Very helpful and very accurate. I use it all the time now. I love my 705 and I enjoy it more than my GPX4000. I use it primarily for hunting gold but it is supurb at coin hunting as well. My opinion it is the only true all around detector on market that does what it is said to do as well as they say. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me.

Thanks guys for the information, I am trying to learn as much as I can before it gets here. I am getting this for my wife to use it came highly reccomended because of lightness and simple to use. I have an E-Trac and love it although I can see myself "borrowing" this from my wife to try out :)

Bell-Two, once you use it for a short period of time and find some goodies, you will probably end up wanting to buy another one for yourself. do you live around any areas where gold deposits are? If so this is the best VLF detector on the market for gold hunting.

Well in Ohio I think the gold is found by panning creeks. We have a couple guys in our club that do good in panning, sounds interesting but have never tried it.
