George K's Goldscan 5 finds, this week.

Mr.Bill

New member
George, (buttondigger) asked if I could post a photo of his beach hunt this week in Va. with the GS5. He was using the 6" and the 8" search loops.

Work has placed him out of that area for a week or so, and he wasn't sure he would be able to post anything.

Mr. Bill

Here is what he found.

There really isn't a loss of depth using those coils. Just the contrary, there a little deeper.

One can crank up the gain far more than normal with the 11". Because of the ability to increase the receiver gain considerably using the smaller coils, it offset's the loss of the smaller coils winding size. In this case there was a gain in depth over the 11" coil using either smaller coil.

This does not necessary relate to every time one changes coils you will see this, but in George's case the ground problems on Va. beach caused from a lot of EMF noise, and salt went away with the use of smaller coils. This gave him the ability to run the detector a lot hotter than he normally would. It wasn't a problem with the 11" one, but he was so surprised at the performance of the 6" coil, he stayed hunting with it, and ordered a 8" that came in later. :)

Perhaps George will jump in here, and leave us the depths ??

Amazing, Didn't take George too long to rack up the rings.

Thanks Bill for posting the pic for Button digger, I'll be hitting our beach the following week.

Congrats George,
Paul (Ca)

I have dug down 4 scoops on a nickle in moist sand using an 8 inch coil. No water filling in the hole. These are clear signals. I'm still learning the detector sounds. I'm sure I miss the super deep stuff but will start digging those signals when the beach is less crowded. The greatest benefit to me is the weight. Control box is hip mounted so I can go all day. I loved the GP3500 but could not deal with the weight and being tethered to it. I thought nothing would ever beat my Nautilus on the wet salt, I was very mistaken. I'm following the new technology with an occasional hunt with an old favorite. If your in the part of Florida with no mineralisation you can't miss with GS5. Imagine an 18 inch mono on this thing. I find the 11 inch coil at times to deep! Just my opinion, you asked! Best regards, George "The Heat" Kinsey aka button digger!

deep even with the 6 or 8 since I know the Aquasearch I had was SO darn deep. I decided to sell it due to our beach being absolutely covered with iron chards and clumps after the storms of 04, but I know I will probably acquire another of Eric's PIs before too long.
