Getting a Nel Sharpshooter coil...

REVIER

Well-known member
Well, I never had a thought on ever getting rid of any of my detectors, didn't have any plans to get any more accessories either but I saw a WTB post from a dealer that was looking for a high tone Vaq which I have but doesn't get out much anymore.
Paid for itself a few times over and we had great adventures but since I got into Fishers my Tesoros became more of a "fun" choice when I wanted a change of pace from time to time but no longer my prime hunting tools.
On a whim I contacted him, he was open to a trade, asked me what I wanted so I went shopping.
Bim, bam, boom...before I knew it he is getting my Vaq and a couple of coils and I am getting a new Mojave and my first aftermarket foreign coil.

Don't really need anything, my Compadre works decently well here at finding masked targets and the coils on my F70 seem to find me a ton in this mess but what the heck, if I can get even a little more performance out of either here it will be worth it.

The Mojave is similar to my Compadre but it is supposed to have a bit more juice, that hi-lo switch might be helpful, it can change coils so a DD on this thing might really make it shine and that cool black color is neat.
Every extra 1/2 inch I can penetrate into this soil might help, it does well on the nail board test and that is just about what I deal with in real life here so looking forward to see what it can do.
Loved my Vaq but if I don't think I have taken it out even 10 times since 2011 so better it goes to someone that will use it in good soil where it can really shine instead of living in my closet gathering dust.

Now that Nel coil...
The dealer says from his observations the Nels seem to work well on most detectors but the Teks and Fishers might have a real affinity for these things...maybe the shape of the coil or who knows what.
I was aiming for the snake but that might be a sideways move from my Fisher sniper so the Sharpshooter is a more logical choice.
Really big coils here will be a waste, if I was still living out west they make sense but here it is all about unmasking in iron and mineralization.
Hopefully just as deep as my 5"DD and other coils here, so far I have been able to get to 8" and make sense out of some severely masked targets with my existing coils and there is a lot of targets here at that 6-8" level.
I can get further in some of my dirt, I have seen depth readings up to the 12" mark but it all seemed to be iron and this soil is difficult to dig in so I never went after them to see so for me 8" is just fine.
The unmasking properties of the new coil might be just the same as my 5"...or hopefully it might be better but that remains to be seen.
Just a small difference would make me happy, a big difference would thrill me.
Plus, it has a longer scanning field than the round one so more coverage and that might be helpful.
Kinda like my big DD coil that works really well here but shrunk down a bit so I am hoping for a little more precision...if that is even possible in this devil dirt.
Looking forward to getting out with it and trying all my favorite settings in new sites but also in my already heavy hit sites I use as learning laboratories...just a ton of fun for me to experiment like that.
Can I find even a few more well hidden treasures I missed before....we will see.
Might end up to be my most productive coil and stay on the end of my rod or it could be just another accessory I use from time to time in the arsenal but right now I am optimistic.
The proof will be known on my first hunt so stay tuned.
All I can think of at this point is...

I tried my first one on a minelab explorer many seasons back.. It worked perfectly, every bit as deep as the factory coil, no falsing no issues period.. I now run one on the fisher f-44 and totally love the ways it hunts...Much better I feel the large elliptical that it came with..Pinpoints perfectly , Id's correctly at deep readings.

I doubt you'll be disappointed with the purchase.

Good to know so thanks!
Wondered about if the ID numbers would stay close to the same.
As I said I do well with my Fisher coils but any chance at even a little bit more enhancement would be welcome.
In my crazy dirt any new or different coil is going to be a crapshoot...but sometimes the dice do roll your way.

I can't wait to have your opinion on the sharpshooter. It has not been off my T2 since I put it on. The center mount on the sharpshooter fills like a feather over the 11DD.

Just what I want to hear!

Pretty much have heard nothing but good things about this coil.
A million vids on YouTube about them, mostly on AT Pros but very few on Fishers.
I will attempt to remedy that when I get mine.
Should be here on Monday.

I don't have one on my F 75, but have a Sharpshooter for two other detectors. My buddy, however, seldom takes the Sharpshooter off his 75. REVIER, you will really like it. HH jim tn

I love mine. I use the nel coils on everything. Sharpshooter on my F75 and 705 along with the tornado coil on both machines. Can't go wrong. The sharpshooter is as deep and separates better as the stock... Plus better balance..

Funny...just a few days ago I never heard of this coil, wasn't even on my radar.
Now my world is becoming wrapped up in this thing.

Hope it works half as well for me as others seem to have been experiencing.

Looking for one for My newly acquired F70 That I am waiting on to get here next week Looking forward to using it it has the small 6inch elliptical coil on it now

I have been doing this since 2010, hunted here in this state for 3 years then moved out west for 3 and have found more clad, older coins, and silver and gold jewelry then I ever thought possible using a Compadre, Vaq and an F2.
Then in 2014 I started using and learning the F70.
In the great soil in Kansas and MIssouri it was incredible, there was no site under any conditions it could not conquer.
When we moved back to Bama I knew what was waiting for me so I was seriously thinking about getting a PI unit...but first I decided to try to see what the Fisher could do here.
With its power, setting options and abilities, plus some outside the box thinking about those settings and target behavior in this challenging area, my bucket list shrunk and my treasure collection continued to grow.
My jaw has not stopped dropping since I first put batteries in it and turned it on for my first hunt and continues still...even here.
Hopefully, this coil can help me continue along this path for the foreseeable future.

First coil I bought for the 70, I believe you will like it. When I was hunting everyday it was either the sharpshooter or the F75 stock coil. All I really can say is that "money well spent"Have not been out this year because of health issues . ----can't wait to hear as to what you find in places you have already covered.------------------------after1

I had one and in the works department is was good, but not anything GREAT, it was a good size. but!
I didn't like their .2 cent slopped on cheesy decals,
And I had trouble excepting the garbage mounting ears on it. They didn't form a flat mounting surface on the sides of the coil's mounting stem, they are angled (tapered outward) and so much so that to get it snugged up flat to the coil stem it puts a steep arch in the plastic mounting screw.

Now, the above didn't effect the coils performance but for me those in your face crap details didn't help my overall feelings about the coil!, because of the lack of details and no performance gains over the factory coils I sold mine.

I will see how things shake out when I get it.
Looks won't matter much to me if it works well, as far as mounting if it goes on and stays on without movement that would be fine.
Just real curious on how well it will perform next to the factory coils.
This dirt is far from normal...the mineralization is one thing, lots of hunters deal with that, but the volume of iron buried around here is almost unbelievable.
It is because of the history of this city, the fact that most public sites had old homes that were knocked down at most of them and slag from the iron and steel industry this town was built on and became famous for was mixed into the fill dirt that was spread all around the city in both commercial and private properties.
Here is a vid I recently made that shows what I am up against in way more sites around here than I would like and when you see this same stuff happen in a private lawn you know you are not hunting in normal sites.
I have talked to at least two guys that live near me that got into the hobby years ago and got out almost immediately or eventually...chased out of it by all this iron.
Wusses..in life you either deal with things head on as best you can or give up.
I just don't give up very easily, there is always a way to deal with anything...you just have to figure out how.

If this coil helps me combat this...even just a little bit better than my others, and gets me as deep as they can with decent ID's it will become my prime coil.

Afte3r watching you video made me want to post this, Long story short, looking for a ring that was on the side of a porch, dirt was not hard to dig, getting vids like yours , I was seeing high 70s and 80s for a split second. With pin pointer and digging tool I pulled out every thing that the pin pointer sounded off on, a pile of nails, screws, some carbon and brass.and finally found a wheat penny under all those hits, So were the high numbers the penny? I would like to think so but you can't dig every high number ------------------after1-------------- The penny was about 8'' down-----------

The performance of the NEL Sharpshooter for me was so close to the Fisher 5x10 I didn't see the need for both, so I sold Sharpshooter.

I think you will like it and am sure the target separation is better than the stock 11"DD.

I am somewhat in the same boat with my 3 little coils, 6.5" concentric, the 5" DD and the NEL Snake. All are so close I may let the Snake go.

I never thought about the 5X10", not a ton of vids out here on that one but many on the sharpshooter with owners mostly saying they love it.
I have friends that use after market coils, Nels, one an SEF, I just wanted to try one and see what I can do with it in my dirt.
Also peer pressure.

I use the 5 x 10 on my F 75 and I like it as well as the Sharpshooter on my other detectors. Maybe even a little better. HH jim tn

Took it out yesterday, I will write up a review later but we are going to get along just fine.

First hunt, almost immediately on one of the first signals I decided to dig in an area I must have scoured a hundred times I found silver.
Really, really tiny silver....half of a broken tennis racket charm.

All kinds of coils out there but I was trading with a dealer and he only had Fisher and Nel products.
This one will work fine, very happy with it.
Comparing it to my Fisher 5" it seems to hit all the marks, great separation, depth, sensitivity.
An extra bonus is, and this was something I was hoping for...it seems quieter than my Fisher coils.
Everything works as far as settings around here but for hunting in iron, something that I have an abundance of in many of my sites, the Fishers are known to have better resolution at depth around that stuff on higher gain, not low.
That high beam headlights in the fog theory...the opposite when you use these tools.
I can turn up the heat a little more with this one, both the sense and thresh, and it seems to be surprisingly quiet.
A great advantage for hunting around here, I hope.
