Getting back into it

silver seeker

New member
Hello all. I'm new to the forum, but not to detecting. Been at it on and off for about 30 years now. Started when I was 12, my dad bought me a white's coinmaster 1DB and he got the white's 6000D unit. I will never forget my first silver find, a well worn 1925 SLQ. I was so excited, ran home to show everyone what I had found. When I saw that shiny silver coin fall out of my plug, I've been addicted every since. I found quite a few more keepers with the 1DB, even my first gold ring; only 10k, but it sure made my day. For whatever reason, I began detecting less and less and eventually, I guess for other interests, I didnt get back into it until I was about 20. That's when I bought an Eagle II. Found many silver coins and silver rings/pendants with this one. It is a great machine and I still have it today, still works great, never had a problem with it. Even though I haven't been swingin in the past 10 years, it was always on my mind. Now, a few months ago, my dad calls me saying he lost his ring while he was mulching his flower bed. Got the Eagle II out of the closet, put in fresh batteries, drove over there and fired it up. It was a small area, so this was going to be easy, and it was, found it in less than a minute. Anyway, finding that ring sparked my addiction again, and so I'm at it again. The Eagle II gets a little heavy after a while, so I decided to buy a new detector. Just a few days ago, it arrived in the mail, my first fisher, the F70. I cant wait till we finally get some rain, it's nearly impossible to dig around here, ground is like concrete. So, I've only used it in my own yard, and found several clad, not expecting any silver, since this house was build in the late 60's. This detector is going to take some getting used to, it is so sensitive. Cant wait till the ground softens up, but unfortunately, no rain in the forecast. HH

You will love the Fisher.... But keep in mind you can not run it like the Whites.. Sure you turn it on,and swing the coil..it's just with the Fisher you have raw power..have to learn to adjust sens, set discrimination, and GB every place you detect using fast grab.. Also re grounding once in awhile if you start to get noisy chirps as you swing..

Prepare to dig some deep Silver !! Oh...You can swing the Fisher all day ..It's much lighter than your Old detector with better balance over all.And oh so much easier on your wrist LOL figuring you didn't have the Eagle II SL Model. The recovery between targets is awesome with the Fisher too.

Good Luck .keep us informed on your finds..

You will find out very quickly with all the best advice, cool finds and the sweetest line of metal detectors made, there is "no place like home". Welcome Sir!

Thanks Elton, I've been reading alot about f70, mostly on here. There is alot of friendly, helpful people like yourself on here, cant wait to go out and start learning this thing, thanks again, and by the way, my old detector is the Eagle II SL 90, and you are right, a wrist breaker!

about some of the stuff you found way back 30 years ago...what was the trophy besides your first silver find?
Mud

Yes a Little bit, but the top handle Eagle was a lot worse..LOl Sorry I missed that you had the SL 90.. A machine that still holds it's own in todays world of detecting...
With the two.Wow, you have everything covered...

Welcome. You are making the change that I made about five years ago. I went from the Eagle to the CZ3d and liked it so much I had to try the F70. I liked it so much I ended up with the F75 LTD. I enjoyed them all but love the F75. Keep us posted. Don't be afraid to run the Fishers lower on sensitivity. They will still find some amazing things even when turned down a little. Keep checking in and let us know how your transition goes.

Welcome Silver seeker:
This forum has probably the most information on any detector your looking for.
The F70 is my type of detector. I think it was make for older guys with a little spunk left in them to swing it all day every day. Of course if you young guys want to swing a F70 I don't think it will damage your integrity? I use the 6.5" coil only. The balance is so good, it is light, fast, adjustable, gets good depth, (even with 6.5" coil, sens@60 I get 5" on coins), changes tones, (tones@3H is nice for coin hunting you only have to dig high tones and end up with a lot of coins) It is one great all around hunting machine. I am a senior citizen coin hunter. I have 80 days of hunting this summer so far. I am down almost 30 days of hunting from last summer with the heat.
You made a good choice. Enjoy your F70 if you need something just ask. Sens@60-65, Thresh@-3, Disc@25, Tones@3H, mode DE. I like to ground balance before every hunt and I do it again when I have moved some distance or have been out for hours. This is just the way I detect. If it starts to get noisy GG... Hope this helps? Looking forward to your posts..... Happy Trails....Z

Welcome aboard. Great group of guys and gals here and we all are willing to help. I swing an F 75 LTD and an Omega. This summer is my 40th year with this great hobby and since retiring a few years back, I go at it full bore. We want to see your next 1st piece of silver....or gold. Good luck! HH jim tn

Back then, I had the coinmaster 1DB, a $99 unit, very simple machine. My best finds were the SLQ and the ring. Found about 10 silver dimes, alot of Wheaties, and a ton of clad, enough to pay for the detector 2 times over, so not bad for a twelve year old. Thanks for replying, HH.
