I read it Hank! Thanks for sharing! As a former history teacher myself, I enjoyed teaching on the Civil War, and Alabama History in General. There were other topics I enjoyed teaching too, but Alabama History (including Civil War in Alabama) is at the top of my list.

Thanks Lisa, I to love history, and metal detecting go hand in hand, glad you enjoyed it!

I have read a lot of the civil war history and even visited some CW areas when I was in the US.

The local area stuff is lost on me as a foreigner, but the whole tragedy of the conflict is not.

It's such a sad bit of history showing how nuts we humans are.

Thanks for the link Hank. I would love to detect in those areas.

Our interesting areas are the 150 year old goldfields where lots of artifacts have been found.

There was only one real skirmish in our goldfield history.

It is called the Eureka Stockade out of Ballarat in Victoria where irate miners fought a bit of a losing battle with the troopers. It only lasted a few hours.

Sadly the whole place is now covered with a museum that is at best described as an eyesore.

I live on the site of a government run convict farm, but there is not one thing to be seen today even though it is a major factor in our early history.

Thanks for the post Hank.

Thanks buddy, if you ever make it up here to us yanks, contact me and I will take you to some CW hunting grounds! And make sure you have a great time! Your right the CW was a big mistake, brother against brother it had hardship on everybody during that era! Have you been to Shiloh battles ground? HHH

Shiloh national park is a great place to learn more about it, on the park there's a pond called bloody pond because the wound soldiers would go there to drink water and sometimes die there, the whole pond turned pink from the blood and then there's the hornets nest, an open battle field to two sides fought at and some of the survivors told later that the bullets were thick in the air and sounded like mad hornets, its truly amazing place and humbling at the same time!
