Going over to the Dark Side

Well, I'm going over to the Dark Side. I'm getting rid of my green machines and going to the Black detectors. I have done very little coin and relic hunting this year. I spent most of my time looking for the yellow stuff up at my claim and did well. I'm looking for a TDI now and will most likely get a black VLF gold machine a GMT or GMZ as well. I just picked up a MXT 300 my first ever Whites in 40 years of tecting and I have to say I like it very well. Garret has been the only detectors I have used seriously from 1969 (BFO to the GTI 2500) I kind of feel like I'm a traitor, my GTI is a smoking coin, jewelry and relic machine. I like this Forum a lot and will drop by to see all the great Garret finds.

- - well it happens. If you're like me, you try lots of detectors. I have some black ones, too.
But you don't have to worry, your Garrett detector will still be there waiting.
I'm working on getting another GTP 1350, myself, since like a fool , I let mine go last season.

Lets hope you aren't doing anything crazy like selling your GTI. I've learned one thing: Detectors are like guns and women - you shouldn't get rid of the good ones.

I'd keep one Garrett in your arsenal. I wouldn't part with my 2500. As you said, it is an amazing coin and jewelry shooter. Not bad for relics in true all metal either. I've used Bounty Hunter, Whites, Minelab and did ok with all of them. I hunted side by side with a novice detector using an MXT 300 and he was constantly asking me to image his targets. I swung his detector for an hour and liked it a whole lot. If Garrett doesn't release something new soon I'm considering a high end Whites or maybe a Minelab. Not to replace my trusty GTI 2500 but to add some variety to my detecting hobby. Gotta spend my swag on something! (I am very fond of the high balance in my detecting account too.)

Please keep visiting here. Personally, I'd like to hear more of your prospecting stories.

All ready sold my GTI, time to move on, I think I'll keep my Infinium for the water work on my claim and my ace 250's for quickie hunts at the Parks and schools. I like what I've read on the Spectra V3 I think the Multi Freq machines are much better suited to multi purpose use. I watched the Videos over on the Whites page and being an Engineer I like whites approach to the Multi Freq process. If I were designing a new machine I would be going the same way. I just think Garret has sat on a good thing to long with the GTI technology. Garret was cutting edge for a long time but the imaging and treasure talk is old news now and they did not bring anything new out this year. Whites and M-Lab is way ahead on their VLF detectors and Whites has just hit the market with great new Gold and PI detectors. I think Mine Lab is way over priced but their stuff works. I also think the next step will computerize PI machines that have real depth as places to hunt get fewer and the rest get picked clean. We will need lots more depth to find the real old stuff. That is why I'm getting away from coin and relic hunting. I can go out to my claim (10 ac.) and get 10 or so gm of nuggets on a week end and make more money to support my hobby. Plus a little for the house hold and savings.

Sorry to see you go over there. But they have good machines. Ive heard and used that new TDI and liked it. But I still like my Infinium more for prospecting.. I was also thinking of getting that GMZ or the GMT. for a high high freg VLF gold machin.

Stay in touch though. Garrett will come out with something kool soon. Hopefully this year. I got thousand bucks saved for there new top o the line detector.

You find nuggy's with your Infinium? I found enough to pay for mine with California nugs. But have done 5 nugget trips here in Oregon and got the scunk. Maybe got to go back to Cali.

Yeah you ain't that far away. You might try Eastern Oregon or parts of Washington. Write to the State Geology Department and get a copy of their book showing where all the major gold deposits are.

Hey, that's okay man. To each his own. This is the Garrett users' forum, but above all we are metal detector hobbyists. There are several great manufacturers out there and they all make machines that do the same thing which is locate/identify metal in the ground. Lots of guys on here own and use more than one brand of detector. That's cool. I myself have owned several different brands over the years, but I choose to specialize in using Garretts now. I myself would never give up my GTI 2500. It is much to versatile of a machine. It's not the best gold machine, though. I've used it and didn't have any luck finding nuggets, but plenty of guys have. I had much better luck finding nuggets with the Scorpion and Infinium. You're wise to hang on to your Infinium. It does go deep and there's plenty of big nuggets in the ground just waitin' for ya'. I use the Scorpion in areas that are known for smaller nuggets and also to locate concentrations of black sand.

Best of luck to ya'. That MXT is a great machine. I've played around with a buddy's and it's fun to swing.:detecting:
Feel free to stop by and share your finds and stories with the Garrett family.:wiggle:
Pull up a chair and stay for a while.:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)
