I am going to be in Salem MA. for a few days in October I was wondering if anyone could suggest a couple of places that I might be able to hunt for an couple of hours, or whether or not there are any restrictions to hunting along the waterfront/ beaches. Thanks!

May i suggest you call City Hall in Salem Ma. and ask them if it's ok to detect in there parks. Apparently no one here is from MA.

Seriously, I don't know much about the city, been there a few times as a tourist as I live north of there in NH. That whole area is very old, it dates back to the mid 1600's. The pilgrims landed in nearby Plymouth and the first colony was started there. You might ask at the local town hall as Jerry suggested or stop at the police station and ask. My guess is that it is very heavily hunted if there are indeed spots you can go...but you never know. You can always track down Brandy on the Friends and Finds Forum, I thik he is from around there. Good luck and keep us posted!. Ron

finding a place to park your car is going to be tough enough.the salem commons are off limits i believe, but the salem willows is not.
it's been hunted to death and theres a ton of trash but it is an old area and ya just never know.

the whole city has been pounded for years so dont get yer hopes up.
dont spend too much loot on them tourist[traps]attractions.;)

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately my wife is coming primarily for those tourist traps :) Hopefully it will be fun anyway. Her Uncle has an old victorian not far from Salem and its from the mid 1800's so hopefully I can make it there.

I live in the Western part of Mass now, but grew up south of Boston. Didn't know about beeping back then... I have beeped the Lynn and Saugas beaches within the last fifteen years and had no one come running down the beach telling me I couldn't. These beaches are just down the street from Salem. Revere beach is the next one down from Lynnn and that is an extremely busy beach area in the summer. People are always playing or walking on these beaches pretty much year round. I'd give them a try. Good Luck and do keep us posted.

Crash:I live the next town over from Salem. You should be careful in several of the old parks. The local officials have signs posted specifically prohibiting MDing in certain areas, notably Gallows Hill where the witchcraft trial victims were hanged. There is a hill in back of Salem Willows that, although incredibly trashy, has yielded up rings and old silver coins; earliest I have seen are Barbers. Good luck. ~Rich
