gold detectors my frist and i dont know what to get

Ever use a detector?
Want to do more the pure nugget hunting?
Budget?
Location?

Get the best you can afford and join a prospecting club.

yes ive own a safari but didnt like that machine .... yea i want to do a more than just nugget hunt ... relic and coin and jewelry . budget dont want to spend over 1200 . living in south carolina ... ps. and do the beach hunting to ..

The Garret AT Pro then,
Decent all around unit and a good price.

You culd get an all around machine like the MXT which has a good reputation but there
is also the New Garrett AT-Pro OR you can opt for the xterra 505 or better yet the xterra 707.
The above mentiooned are all good all around coin and prospecting machines.

I've been told by someone who has used both that they have similar depth. My personal feeling is the XT-705 would find smaller gold, if used with the 6" DD coil and in the prospecting mode. Don't think you would go wrong with the MXT, AT-Pro or the XT-705, as each is a good all-around detector...

I have, or had, all three detectors. The MXT has a more aggressive, and IMHO better, ground tracking system than the 705. Built tougher with a much better coil selection and a transferable warranty. The 705 is a better coin hunter, has a few more tricks, and would probably do as well over easier ground and the warranty ISN'T transferable. The AT Pro I'm new to and will have to do some testing. The 3 big selling points are WATERPROOF (to 10ft), great audio in Pro mode, and ridiculously low price. It too is sensitive and deep, though it lacks actual ground tracking. It DOES balance very quickly though and has a transferable warranty too. For doing a lot of nugget hunting I'd go for the MXT. If doing a lot of water hunting (streams 'n such) the AT Pro is almost a no-brainer. The 705 I'd use in a pinch for everything but wading/water hunting (same goes for the MXT) though you 'can' do it if you're careful. They're all basically good detectors for near everything.. you'd just have to figure out which has the features you want. ,,Willy.

which of those will pick up the smallest pickers. or should i buy a fisher gold bug 2 or a whites mgt
My self i don't like pin head size gold with a detector so i don't want a detector that picks up spect size gold...

Having seen a Tesoro Vaquero find more small gold nuggets & specimens bits then some guys using the super expensive brands I sure was impressed :clapping:

Bobby .

should i buy the infinum ls ... ??? there are hot rocks were i live... .... will it do coin hunting ... never used a pi machine before but i could figure it out... will it do beach hunting

I'd skip the Infinum for an entry level PI the only choice IMHO is the Whites TDI. unless you want to hunt in the surf or dive.

No PI will match the discrimination ability of a VLF.

Willy made some great suggestions, altho if I was doing a lot of nugget hunting I'd go with a purpose built prospecting detector like the Minelab Eureka Gold.

You can coin and relic hunt with any metal detector, The Eureka is made to hunt gold in hot ground with a rudimentary discrimination.

Based on your responses your in the market for a all around detector that can handle wet locations. thats why the AT Pro keeps getting recommended.

You also mentioned you have /had a Safari but didn't like it. If you still own it consider a used Gold Bug ll or the Whites GMZ,GTM and use them just for nugget shooting.

ok i think ive made my mind up going to buy the garrett at pro .... with that said what coil should i sink my extra budget money into. 1200 that is the amount on the budget.. pinpointer to need that two ill be using in in the water ...
