Gold Range?

New member
I've been trying to get a feel for the number ranges for certain coins & jewelry items. I found gold so far at 59 on a gold ring, 47 on a gold pendant and 37? on a 22Kt. bracelet. So far most of my rings are coming in the 50's range. Today I found 3 rings, 2 junk metal and the 3rd to be determined although it might be titanium. Anyone else have some fairly consistent numbers on gold or silver rings? I understand the size, alloy & weight all contribute to the numbers. Also, does anyone know or understand the depth meter? I thought I read there was one on the display screen.

Hey rarysgaard, the depth meter is the upside down horseshoe located in the left upper corner of the screen. There are two halves one for ferrous and one for nonferrous. The more graying on the indicator, the shallower the target. Hope this helps. What program did you use to get your gold readings?

So far I have just used the fast program with discrimination at 28, frequency at 18kz, iron at 3, reactivity at 5, whatever the other setting at 5, tried notch today at 65 to 71 & 86 to 91. I like to hunt in trash and specifically for gold jewelry. I hunt parks and anywhere there are large masses of people and activity. It has been so hot & humid here lately though, it makes it difficult to hunt. I know there are no iron clad ranges for gold, but Andy Sabisch in his book on Explorer & Etrac gave some good numbers for gold and the gold rings I found for the most part matched those numbers.

As a suggestion, try Turing reactivity down. You will gain much more depth and still be faster than most all other machines!
