Gold Ring Depth Test

Sven

Well-known member
I was out in the back yard comparing a few detectors each using a DD coil on a freshly buried man's 14KT gold ring which was at a depth of 7".

GoldBug Pro with a NEL Sharpshooter, barely but, a dig-able signal in all metal and disc modes. Then turn 90 degrees to X it, no longer would pick it up. This is at 90+% gain
Teknetics T2 with a NEL Sharpshooter, better signal in all metal mode, barely but, dig-able signal in disc mode at 60=70% gain. Rain a bit noisy. Again turn 90% and the T2 would not pick up the ring.
Tesoro Euro Sabre with a 7" concentric coil, maxed out sensitivity would not pick it up in All metal mode (at 6" no problem), in Disc mode, with the GB turned negative a bit it would pick it, a dig-able signal.
No problem getting the ring at any angle.

The Vista Gold with the Super 6 coil, had no problems getting an excellent repeatable signal in all modes and from all angles. With Turbo turned on, the signal was louder again. Overall operation of the Vista was smoother than the GB Pro and T2. I can see myself missing good gold targets and what ever else with those two machines. They may have to go.

Then I just had to take my Mirage PI out there as well with the 5" and 7" coils. Finding that ring was a piece of cake for it, forgot how good it is.

Pretty soon now I can get out and do a real hunt, going back to a spot that produced some gold and see what the other detectors missed using the Vista Gold.

sven I was going to say , a gold ring at 7" deep for the mirage , ? childs play for the mirage hits hard, and strong, the Euro is really good i noticed it was but looks like the vista is a blessed machine and yet with the 6" coil you better hang on to the vista .

The Super 6 is really a 6x8 size coil, not a round 6" coil. It's nice, not too big and not too small. I like it.

Sven,do your reckon the Vista Gold hit hard on the ring because it runs @ 25Khz ??? can fully understand the Mirage hitting hard on the Gold, folks dont realise what a good machine the Mirage is

I'm sure that has a lot to do with it.
Also noticed that it would hit a thin gold chain spread out on the ground with the clasp and split ring out of the coils reach, very cleanly to about 4".
Maybe even better than the GoldBug Pro with the 5" coil and Sharpshooter coils.
