Gold ring found with Quattro

JT in Virginia

New member
I found this gold ring at the same construction site. Apparently this site was a golf course at one time. I had a soild 20, and I had been digging many pull tabs up to that point and then about 5 inches down I find this beauty. No pics of me finding it beacuse my camera was in my car and I was too excited to go and get it.

Boy, it just goes to show how gold can come in at different numbers. I just air tested a lady's ring a while back and it came in at an 8 and I believe I've seen pull-tabs come in at 18 and (maybe 20). "Darn", so much for discrimination".:|Take that with a grain of salt, I believe it has it's place, but good goin' on the gold ring. Good thing you dug it!:|

I was using the coin/jewlery setting and I was seeing the old fashoned pull-tabs come in consistantly at 17-20 and I was digging all of them. The bullet came in at around 30 so basically I was digging every strong signal no matter where it was. I was gigging some tiny bits of aluminum and gum wrappers in the single digits if I remember too. This is a pretty thick ring so I think a thinner ring would probably come in at a lower number.

By the way, that's a really neat scale you have;) there! I'd like to get one too, (if I'd ever find anything I could weigh on it):(

Well JT, it sounds like you "really did the right thing" to dig all that stuff between 17 and 20, which a lot of times I won't dig. I think we all need to take this one to heart. I think a lot of people will dig everything above 6 or 7 on the beach, but I know a lot of us don't think there's any gold in the parks or other land type places so we won't dig between (say) 8 and 30, but look what we could have missed by not digging those numbers. I think I'm learning something every day, especially on this web site because, after all, we're mainly dealing with Quatro owners and it doesn't get much more specific than that. Thanks for the valuable info JT.

Nice gold ring find JT! What a feeling huh, to find gold! I haven't found a gold ring in ages, just lots of silver rings at the beach, most of them have been too pitted from the salt water, or broken. But when I first bought the Quattro, and took it to the beach nearly two years back, on the same day I found a thin gold wedding band, and another with six diamonds encrusted into the band. Both rings read in at 13. It was my first experience at the detector finding gold. I was over the moon, as I'd only had the detector for a few weeks!
