KP means Karat Plumb. In detail this means that the karat weight of the gold item is "at least, maybe more" than the karat weight stamped on it. For example, 14kp means at least 14k, maybe 15k. 10k will mean at the minimun 10k maybe 11 or 12k in actuality. My guess it that the karat weight has been worn off from use leaving only the KP. An acid test will give you the approximate karat weight.
