Gold ring with diamond, second time out

Hi guys

My first post on the forum.

Looking for somewhere with general information to help me get used to my first detector, a secondhand Safari.

I'm not doing too bad so far, second time out I found this in an old orchard, about 4 inches deep and returning a signal between 9 and 11.

Has anyone got a list of what likely signal responses indicate? I know ground conditions can influence signals, but so far I'm not making any sense of the numbers, so I'm detecting in coin and jewelry and digging everything. I'm working a heavy clay soil.

best regards

Hi Peter
Well done that's a nice ring mate  try and get a copy of June 2010 the searcher magazine, Des Dunne has an article with tips & tricks for the Safari
all the numbers are there for the UK. I'm sure you will find it of some help.
cheers:ukflag:

pdcambs,

If you research this Forum back to May or June, 2010, you'll find many target ID lists. Some
will show gold and silver #.

Thanks for your help guys, very useful advice.

Do you go to any of the UK detecting rallies Fred? I'm hoping to make one soon, near Harlow.

Peter

No Peter Iv been detecting for over 12 years now & never been to a rally, but hope to soon transport is my problem though ( I don't drive ) Just recently joined 2 detecting clubs Detecting Wales & Detecting England & also the F.I.D, I'm from Bristol & as most of the DW rallies are in Wales need to cadge a lift.
Good luck & good hunting on yours mate.
cheers:ukflag:

Ah right, OK.

Bristols a lovely part of the country, I used to live in Taunton about 15 years ago and grew up in Cardiff and then Aberystwyth.

This bank holiday will be my first Rally, but the club does not organise anything as far away as somerset unfortunatly.

The little I have seen so far of the detectoring comunity online is very encouraging and interesting. My other passion is beekeeping and with nearly 500 beekeeping books I can already see I'm going to need another bookcase for detectoring, just for finds identification; and then of course there is site research. Yup, I think I'm really going to enjoy breaking out the detector each autumn as the beekeeping work starts to tail off.
