Gold Ring...

Guest
Brillo brought a gold ring he found a couple of weeks ago to our club meeting. We think it is very old, maybe dating back as far as the late 1700. There is a mark on the inside of the ring, that no one here can identify. Has any one ever seen a mark like this before. An arrow with a diamond around it between an R with a square box around it. Any help in identfying the jewelers mark would be apreciated.

I believe the "R" may stand for Rolled Gold Plate which was popular in the 1800's and early 1900's. The arrow you are looking at could be a letter "G".
Not positive but good possibility. Very nice find!

You might try taking it to a local jeweler. Most of the older guys recognize hallmarks.

They use multiple hallmarks noting date, city of manufacture, jeweler, gold type, etc. My wedding band is from Britian and it has at least 4 hallmarks.
