Gold Rings?

Heya.. Josh from Seattle. I posted here a year ago or so with my Garrets 250, and am back with my Explorer SE, which Ive had for almost a year now. I recently made the switch from discriminating to all metal/ferrous, and once your ears turn out the iron it works wonders. However, I have yet to find a gold ring.. where will these show up on the Smart track (or whatever it's called?) I know i've passed over one or two. Detecting in Seattle isn't as rewarding as the east coast, and i'd like to get everything out of it that I can.

The small rings will be as low as the bottom of the screen. The bigger the ring the higher the cursor goes up, usually. The karat and the material they use to mix with the gold has alot to do with it too. I found a big gold class ring that was right up there where indian pennies ID. And one more thing, a gold ring really changes it's ID when it's tilted or on edge(try it with an air test). So the Explorer is just like every other machine out there when it comes to identifying gold. There is no specific ID for gold, period!

One good thing about detecting in Seattle, and on the West Coast in general, is that you're more likely to find S mint marks on the coins that you find. Its rare for me to find a San Francisco-minted coin here in Western New York. As for gold, I've probably passed over plenty of them myself. Found one last month that gave a consistent reading of 8-23 on the Explorer II digital screen. It sounded like a solid target and didn't jump around at all on the target ID. I'd made a resolution to dig a wide variety of signals this year to see what I'm missing. Good luck finding more gold.
