Golden uMax tone ID??

WV62

Well-known member
Just wondering if the tone ID goes the full depth of detector?

Reason I ask, I have another high end brand detector that has tone ID, but if it hits a coin say 4" or more inches it gives a low iron tone. Didn't find that out until I started hunting it with one tone selected.

You will get at least 6" on a dime with the default coil. Deep than that, they start to jump around. Any detector on the edge of max depth is going to be inaccurate and probably drifting towards iron once it is at the absolute limits of detection.

If you are looking for a good, multi-tone unit, the Golden umax is more than up to the task. I absolutely love mine. That said, I have really mild soil here. I don't know what things are like in WV, but you might need something with ground balance.

Topdecker is right. I had an old Golden Umax and the new one has better tones, but I don't like the all metal VCO. I had a top of the line Fisher that wasn't as good on tone ID. And the ID display didn't help any. I believe Tesoro has the best tone ID.
