I have one with an 8" coil and it is very deep and sensitive to small gold. I've been a Excal man for three years and wanted something for the FL sanded in conditions. It easily outperforms the Excal, but you dig a lot more garbage. Immediately, I started finding small gold and chains that the Excal is deaf to. I read posts, but do not post finds. I find gold when no one else does......

As far as rugged, I'd say that it is exceptionally rugged. In addition, the AA batteries last a very long time.

I have not had any issues with it and have used it 2-3 times a week for the last four months. I bought it "used" also. It's a good alternative for those sanded in conditions.

When the sand goes back out, however, I will go back to the Excal because of the discrimination.
