Goldquest Audio Question

Eric,
I've been hearing a single "blip" sound over the threshold. I'm unsure if this is from some sort of electrical interference. The "blip" sound is heard no more than every few minutes at worse to going completely and it's intensity can range from just audible to quite loud. The "blip" is louder if the threshold is increased.
I have new good quality alkaline batteries, so I'm pretty sure it's not the low battery alarm.
The noise is not regular in it's timing, but I believe was worse when nearer some power lines close to the beach front clubhouse.
The performance of the detector is in no way diminished. The sound can be heard regardless of whether the loop is being swung or not. I believe the REJECT setting didn't help overcome this sound, but I will double check this setting again if the sound is still there next time.
I am fairly confident that this is part of the detector's normal operation, but I thought I'd post this question anyway.
Otherwise, I have been totally "blown away" by this great machine.

Drop me a email, let me know where, and when you pruchased it, with the serial number, and perhaps I can help you out.
Sound like just interference from outside source ??

Bill,
I purchased direct from Eric. He sent the goods to me in Australia last week.
I'm fairly confident the detector is performing as it should be.
I'll keep you posted.
Tony.

Hi Tony,
The low battery alarm kicks in at 8.5V and it will cause a regular blip on the audio which increases in frequency as the batteries go down still further. Initially, it may be one blip every 10 secs, but it will be regular. Also, its intensity will not vary for a particular threshold setting. Try the detector in a different area, well away from power lines. Sometimes, when a load cuts in or out (motor or freezer for example) the power line will radiate a pulse. Once had a Goldscan which pulsed in a particular area. It turned out to be a powerful over the horizon military radar that caused the problem.
Eric.

That could be why the town didn't look right to me. <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">
Thanks for setting me straight.

Eric,
Yes, the problem basically disappeared as I walked further from the power lines. The second outing in the same area gave no problems at all.
Thanks for the feedback.

I have heard those random blips with three different PI units. When using my first one, a White's PI, I was told by the man who designed it that this was from aircraft and/or boat transmiters keying on or off. If one of these sounds like a target, just go back over that spot. If it repeats, dig. If not, move on!
