Goldquest battery

It appears that the Aquastar uses a bigger battery than the GoldquestSS. If you were to put a battery the size that comes with the Aquastar on a Goldquest, would there be any benefit, as far as depth etc. Also I was interested in putting a external volume control on my Goldquest SS. Anyone know where I need to make the connections? Thanks, Mark L.

You would have no benefit by going to the Aquastar battery. The voltage is regulated internaly.
The Aquastar NiMH battery pack is 15 volts.

Hi Mark,
As Bill stated, little if anything would be gained by using the battery from an Aquastar on a GQ. As long as the batteries in the GQ are in good shape, one most likely wouldn't see any difference at all, except for having to carry around more weight.
Now, as for your idea of an external volume control, the easiest solution is to get a set of headphones with volume controls buiilt in the ear pieces, or has the volume control in the cord.
The next logical solution would be to buy one of the simple add on in line volume controls available. Since most of these type controls use a smaller plug, you will need an adapter or change the plug to match the connector on the detector.
In line volume controls are made by a few different companies such as Koss, see: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/search/detail/base_id/39362/src=00631
or by Labtec: See: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006HSHM/104-0606372-2645512?v=glance
Hope this helps.
