Before shipping the Goldquests to Mr Bill, I thought I would try one more coil size for comparison. I wound up a 5in coil of the same inductance as the 8in and 11in. On the 0.2gm nugget, the range improved to 2in; on the 0.9gm nugget it had dropped to 5in, and the gold ring down to 10in. This shows that for physically small targets, provided they are detectable in the first place, and at ranges considerably less than the coil radius, some improvement can be gained by using a smaller coil of the same inductance.
