Goldquest ss (original)

I think if you search the forum it's something that's been discussed before. If I recall correctly, it's not that big a job. Think it involves cutting some traces on the circuit board and making up a coil plug adaptor to enable use of The Minelab DDs.

Goldquest's are in short supply used so if I were you I'd pounce on it quick. Someone with more expertise than me will be able to give you a more definitive answer though :)

Hi Rick,

Sand Turner is correct, it can be done. It isn't difficult but it does take some skill and knowledge of electronics and soldering. You can also change the connector to a 5 pin and this will allow the use of GS 5, ML or other compatible coils also.

As Sand Turner stated, there has to be a couple of mods done, one of which is cutting a trace and adding a wire to the proper location on the board to the right pin on whichever connector is used. I personally would recommend the change to the 5 pin connector if this change is made since the connectors are much easier to come by.

Once the mods are done to the detector, then the original coil connector needs to be changed if you decide to use a 5 pin type. Even if you do not, the coil connector has to be modified slightly also because the mod on the board separates the receive pin from the transmit. So, that connection now has to be made in the coil connector if a mono coil is used.
