Goldscan Range Control

Guest
Eric or Mr. Bill, What is the function of the range control on the new Goldscan? Is it a sensitivity control or something new?

Hi Dave,
Nothing new. It is a receiver gain control, which has the effect of altering the detection range without affecting the small object sensitivity. Some users equate sensitivity with detection range, but I prefer to define sensitivity as the ability to detect small and low conductivity targets. You could label the control RX Gain, but unless the user was familiar with radio terminology, this would cause confusion.
Eric.

Eric,
The new GS surely looks like a great step forward. It must have been a tough job to match the channels well enough to provide the target ID. My hat is off to you, Dave. * * *
