Good All Rounder...

I found this stuff in a few hours, one day last summer and although the coins are in a terrible state, I thought some of you might like a look. One of the pics is all of the stuff that I dug (from 2 stubble fields here in the UK that day) - the other is just the silver hammered coins. The middle coin is thought to be a medieval half groat (two pence) - the one on the right is a Dutch duit from 1617.The big coin is a half crown and the other three are probably Georgian. I think this shows just what a good all rounder the sovereign is - especially as I stumbled across these just using the factory settings.

Great finds! The Dutch duit, is that from the province Zeelandia?

Good luck on finding the good ones.

Eric.

Hi Eric.

I believe the coin originally read HOLLANDIA across its front. I was running in disc mode with iron mask off and the GB switch to pinpoint. I was also using sens on auto - have since read that a lot of people don't rate auto but it seemed to work on the day ! The coil was the standard (10" I think) one that came with the GT.

Auto is OK to learn the Sovereign with as the threshold will be a bit smoother and easier to learn, Minelab recommends it to start with and go to manual once you know your Sovereign well to tell those deeper and weaker signals. We have seen up here where some of these weak signals that are deep in manual will give not signal at all in auto, but like I say you got to learn to walk before you can run, thats the way it is with the Sovereign you have to learn it before you can see some of the deeper and target close to trash others detectors have missed..
One thing I notice you had your iron mask off, any reason for that?? Too many false signals maybe with it on? with it on it can see good targets close to iron, but will get a little falsing on iron too which is easy to tell it is iron as it wont repeat in the same area when checking the signal from a different direction..

Thanks for the pointers Rick - I will certainly have a go at them now that I have an idea what I am listening for.
