Yesterday I found my first ring with my new Surf PI Pro and my first "ocean" ring in a long time. As I have mentioned in previous posts, most of my detecting for the past few years has been in freshwater lakes with my Fisher 1280-x. I had a lot of success in the lakes but I wanted to get into "surf" hunting for a number of reasons: the beach is closer, the water is warmer (now), the digging seems easier, and, I think, the quantity and quality of the jewelry is better.
I really didn't know what to expect when I drove down to the beach yesterday but we have had some big high tides and small low tides this week. I got to the beach just at low tide and started hunting the slope going down to the water and just like that found the start of a pocket that stretched for about 50 yards. With no other detectors in sight, I had the beach to myself and was thoroughly enjoying the new detector, learning the sounds of different objects and their depths. After about an hour I was digging a deep signal by the base of the slope and out popped a man's white gold band with a small diamond.
I've had good days detecting before but this day was a milestone for me. It made me realize that I have a whole new dimension in the hobby to explore and I am just getting started! HH!
