Good headphones for Ace 250

Aussie Okie

New member
Can anyone give me a suggestion for a good set of headphones for my Ace 250?
I have a pair I got with my old BH Tracker IV but they kill my ears!
I don't want to spend a fortune on a pair.
Does anyone know if Nugget Buster headphones (yellow ones) work well for coin hunting?
Any suggestions welcome...thanks

I found a set at Radio Shack that work great. Volume adjustable full ear type for like $20.

I have owned several sets of detector headphones. My two favorites which I use regularly are the Jolly Rogers and the Garrett stereo headphones. Both are very comfortable and do a good job of staying on my head. The Jolly Rogers are a little bit lighter and cost around $80.00. The Garrett is the best that I have found for the money ($30.00 retail) and the most comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. If I had to buy a set of headphones tomorrow, it would be the Garretts.

thanks for the info.....sounds like the Garrett are fine....onre question does the volume 'stay' put...the ones I use now tend to get knocked easy and mostly because they keep sliding off my head every time I bend over.
Also, where is a good place to purchase them?

thanks again
Paul

The Garrett type are generic and go for about 10-15$. About a gazillion makers make them - for everybody. The wire bails where they enter the ear cuffs need reinforcing, so I just loop a zip-tie around them there and cinch 'er up.

Koss makes a nice set of phones similar to those Jolly Rogers. I cant recall the number anymore (XX-30, or something like that), but youll know them because they have a coiled cord, which is a real boon if you are using corded phones.

I also like the in the ear lightweight digiphones. But, you have to route the cord over your torso to keep it from dangling on front of you. However they are worth it under a nice wooly or two in the cold and they are SUPER in the heat of summer. The ones I use fold, too.

If you want wireless, ask John for the latest.

Whatever you get, ensure they are stereo. A mono detector wont matter, but a stereo one through mono phones will drive you batty.
I often take mine apart, too, and add some strain relief at the cable entry and around the plug itself. These points take a lot of pulling and twisting.

Finally, long term comfort, and durability are key. All audio phones reproduce sound within the spectrum you can hear, so fidelity is actually down the list of attributes. Comfy and tough will win the day.

I've got a pair of wirless phones that work great with no cord to fool with. Anything will work with the 250. You don't need expensive phones. I used a set of little Jensens for a long time. Think they cost ten bucks or less.

i have the original depth master headphones.i have used them since the eighties i believe and all i do is change the batteries and replace the plug in cord once and a while.they are very comfortable so i imagine the new super phones are better.

I got mine out of the garbage at work. We demo-ed the place and they were throwing everything away. It is a set of David- Clark. Probably an over kill. The price was right.
