Good Tones -- False Signals

Atlas

Hi All

I'm working with a borrowed Quattro just wondering about differentiating good signals and targets from trash etc. I'm thinking of getting one or an SE or possibly an E-Trac. I run an Excalibur in the water and run a GP-3000 in the gold fields. I have the machine set up in coin with audio to Ferrous. Sensitivity on auto or 15 in manual.

Dug a 1919 wheat which rang out a solid 38 with a fairly high tone. However, when swinging I get lots of high tones but they aren't repeatable or are only single sided. By that I mean you get a high tone one way and no signal the other or a signal with a different tone. These targets typically have an ID in the 30's one way and a low number -1 etc the other. I've dug some of these and they are typically foil or larger rusty iron or nails. Sometimes when digging the signal disappears or once some dirt is out of the hole the signal goes bad (nulls out or gives constant low numbers).

So I'm wondering if this experience/performance is typically and what signal characteristics I should be looking for when shooting for coins/jewlery especially silver.

Thanks
