Got a 2'x2' hole in the backyard.......

cause I got this good dime signal. Kept digging down about 1 1/2 foot and hit this big metal lid of some sort. Appears to be about 2 1/2 foot square or round, can't really tell. Don't know if it an old well cover, old septic cover or a treasure chest full of gold and silver. Gonna finish digging it tomorrow. Joan just sat on the back steps and shook her head when she seen the hole. Told her I was gonna plant a tree there. Now I have to soes she doesn't call me a liar. If'n I find human bones I am outta there.:detecting:

Well, as long as you plant a tree and no one's body and hope you don't find a body or bones either! :look: I hope you find some buried treasure but I have an idea it is an old septic tank, if your place is older and out in the boondocks! But ya never know until you dig farther and don't fall into the hole! Be sure to have Joan there in case ya run into trouble and need help....any odors could knock you out! Looking forward to the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey always says! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

It is probably a silver dime under it and your detector seen right through it, man your detector is deep.

Well, I have not dug up the whatever it is yet. In fact I covered the hole back up for now. The steel plate is about 1/4" thick and about 3'x3' or so. About 8" of it is under a sidewalk path so I gave up for now. It must have been there for awhile as the sidewalk has been there a long time. I am figuring on it being a cover for an old well, as it is close to the back door. Going to talk to some neighbors who have lived in the area for years and see if they recall a well, or a missing family member. Good old me was a standin' on top of this cover scooping dirt and chopping away at dirt. Good thing the cover did not give way. Told Joan if I fall in just cover me up. May try torching a hole in the steel cover to see what is down there.

Don't put flames to it methane gas is very explosive........hh........Dan

My son lives in a house built in the 1950's and it was a rural area around here back then! He was having trouble with his sewer system and had Roto Rooter checking it out with a light on the end of what they call a snake hose! They found that he had a Septic Tank under his driveway that had collapsed and had to remove it and redo the driveway and street in front of it! Sure caused him a lot of trouble and cost to have his sewer system repaired and working properly!  May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty
