I found a 2009-D new penny in my change....finally was able to get some.....along with one of the new nickels....I know about the nickels but didn't know they are minting new pennies with a new back....looks like someone sitting on a log and something else I don't know for sure....Maybe a Prospector? Has anyone seen one of these newer one cents without the memorial backing? It sure is shiny and neat looking! Thanks for any info on it! From what the credit union told me, they are being minted in limited supply to see how they are accepted by the general public. I understand there are a series of four different pennies. Maybe someone else can weigh in on this, as I'm not a coin collector.

yes 4 designs were made in 2009, they are fairly common to find in change now. Hard to find last year, but won't be long you'll see em everywhere

I think it is Abe Lincoln sitting on a log which he appears to be splitting into rails (wedge in the tree on his right and hammering tool on the ground) while he takes a break to read a book....maybe a how to on how to split rails just kidding.

Could be worse Betty - it could have had Obama on it...even if he isn't dead like all the other Pres. on the coins.

Thanks everyone....Ya all are one up on me or should I say four, as I hadn't seen or heard about the new pennies being minted! It is really light in weight compared to the copper ones! I think it is Honest Abe and he's sitting on a log with a split end, so I too believe he is splitting rails and reading a book as he rests! I don't see so well and after being a detectorist I believed at first that he might be a prospector....guess we who have hunted for so long think about first! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

I only live about 10 minutes from Abraham Lincolns birthplace. Those pennies have been here for along time and the nickels also.
