Got a question for you guys

I have been lurking here for a few weeks reading posts and looking at what you dug up. I currently have a White's DFX which I intend to keep and a Minelab XS. I want to sell the Minelab because of the weight and slow response around iron. It does go deep and I have found things in areas I pounded with the DFX. I mostly hunt fields and cellar holes and the DFX does a good job around the cellars but is just not as deep as the Minelab. That being said, I want another detector that can do well at both sites, quick and deep. Oh yeah, light too.

Have any of you guys gone from the Minelab or the DFX to the T2? Is the T2 stock coil good around cellar holes laden with iron? I know there aren't any small coils for it to my knowledge, but if it has a quick response, the stock coil should work. How would the T2 compare to something like the Minelab XTerra 70? And last, what frequency does the T2 operate on? I read where the T2 is affected by EMI's but I hunt in rural areas with very few cell towers or overhead wires.

I recognize a few of you UK guys, especially Matt R and a hello to Frank in NH.

Thanks for your time, Ron

Hi ron, i'm usually hesitant to post much as some think i'm a newbie by their response, but i've been at it since the late 70's. My opinion on the expl. is it's a killer machine on grass with deep coins, but i hunt a lot of plowed fields loaded with iron, it didn't do so well there. As far as the dfx, i really never warmed up to it, but seemed ok. I had the x-terra's and also they seemed deep enough but i just don't like the tones. There again, personal preference. The t2 to me, is as close to a do it all machine as i've owned. Fast, good in iron, i like the tones, goes plenty deep enough. My only issue is the build quality, i hate plastic, but , it's still my fav. machine. good luck, i would tell anyone to try one...

I have had all the major detectors out there including the ones you mentioned. The T2 works great in iron it his targets fast with the standard coil and is deep. I liked it way better then the DFX. In turf hunting if the ground is clean then I love the T2 but with a lot of trash I take out my other detectors with small coils.

It is a great relic machine but at parks and such I don't take it. If it is a very old hunted out park then I may take it and find the deep stuff that has been masked by iron. I would look at the F75 I won't buy one it is not really that different. And I am waiting to see if White's ever gets back in the game with someting way ahead of what is out there now!

Hi Ron,
I have all the machines you mentioned and find the T2 works extemely well for me. It does a good job in iron for me. My first T2 gave me fits when I was in town I just couldn't get it to quiet down. It did have the revisions but maybe it was just that machine? I bought another new one and its been fine in these same areas. The T2 won't handle the heavy trash like the Explorer or DFX but truly it does a decent job at seperation considering the size of it's coil. The depth has been very impressive and I give it a thumbs up! When I hunt my fields here, I use the T2 or Xterra 70. I just hope First Texas does a plastic upgrade soon. The handle of the T2 is really the only concern. This is a fast sweeping machine. I am working on converting mine over to the whites straight rod. Hope this helps to answer your concerns. I would not hesitate using the T2 for a field hunting machine.

not sure why youd keep that one--and better in iron trash too.

is that the kind of answer your looking for????????????
