Got my digital camera figured out.

After reading a post on this forum I figured out what macro was and learned how to take close up pictures of my finds with my Cannon A95 camera. Much better than trying to scan them. Now all I have to do is figure out how to make my pictures smaller when I send them. Here is a picture of the 14kt gold ring with eleven diamonds that paid for my Explorer XS. Found it at an old city park and it was down a good six inches. Rang in like a pulltab, but something told me that at six inches it couldn't be a pulltab in an old park like that and am I glad I just didn't ignore it. It cost me $65 to have it appraised, but the appraiser said it was worth at least $1,100. HH.

I agree that it was a very good investment. I have thought about getting the Explorer II, but as long as my XS is still working I'll keep what I have. HH.

Nice ring...gotta love a find like that in a park...not what you typically expect. At the beach, yes. But I would more than likley have let that one go. Although given the depth and if I had heard it, I might have dug it. I'm sure many of us would cry if we realized what some of the signals we had passed up actually were.

Hey, if you want an incredibly full-featured, easy to use, and totally FREE image editor (which will allow you to both re-size and enhance your pictures) then go to the link below and Download the Picasa Photo Organizer from the Google site. It's really a great program. And completely safe and without any strings attached, because it's from Google...unlike SOME sources you get "free" stuff from.

I particularly like the single-click Auto-contrast and Auto-Color features that you will see when viewing a picture in Picasa...it's uncanny how the program "knows" what to do to make the picture look better, but it does. The result is often amazing.

Thanks Mike. I have to agree that a ring like that to be found in a park are probably few and far between. The guy who appraised it said it looked to be from the early 40's. Besides thinking it couldn't possibly be a pull tab at six inches, I switched to digital and it was a solid 4 with only the ring icon showing and not a coin, so that was even more reason for me to dig it. I will check out that Picasso site and thanks to you and everyone else for all the comments and ideas. That's what make this forum such a friendly and valuable tool for all of us to use. Thanks again. HH.
