Got my first detector today!

Yards are full of nails from roofing jobs. Lower the sensitivity a little to keep the ground chatter down too.

What kind of MD did you get?If you want some easy practice Go to some of you're local elementry school play grounds and hunt in the bark chips or sand.Try diff settings and make sure you try to guess what you're digging before hand.It takes untold hours to understand what you're machine is telling you.
Good Luck and HH

I got the Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300. I found a good deal on cabelas.com for $199. It's pretty chilly here this weekend but I am looking forward to trying the beach when it warms up.

I was a custodian at a school for 18 years. When you go to a school, try around anywhere there are walls you can sit on, car stoppers at the edge of parking lots, kids set anywhere they can. Go to the school yards after school and see where the kids hang out at, especially high school students. The upper grade students like to sit anywhere they are not supposed to. They also put their shirts and jackets on fence, walls or throw them to land anywhere they fall. I found two wallets in the grass the last 10 years I worked at the school. I turned them in to the office. Check around the trees and along building walls. Whatever you see on the school grounds, a kid has been there.
If the grounds have a pond or lake, check along the edge, but watch out for fish hooks.
