Got Permission to hunt Riverside Adult School!

Ace

Member
Built in 1875 and served as a normal school until the early 1970's and then reopened in the late 1970's! I asked the Principal and he gave me the ok, and apparently 50 other TH'ers have wanted to hunt the school in the last few years he told me, but got denied :)poke:), so it hasn't been hunted yet! Finally a virgin site. Since I'm getting my highschool there (was about to graduate high school but came to the US so have to finish it here, long story), I didn't get denied, sadly I can't bring anyone along which I was kinda dissapointed because I wanted to take there a friend of mine that's comming to visit me... It isn't so bad though, but I can't wait to hunt it, I'm probably going this Saturday if I can, I'll let you know how it goes.

Well I went today from 9am-4pm didn't stop, just 5-10 minutes to drink something, well to tell you the truth I'm quite disappointed, I found zilch in anything of interest besides a 1957-D wheat Penny which as luck would have it I nicked it on the rims because of a damn nail besides it that kept e wondering where my target was :rage:, after that I got a really good signal, one that overlaps the top right hand corner, you know, where silver usually appears, BUT again lady luck wasn't on my side today, it turned out to be a huge piece of rotting iron which I couldn't get out because it was really long :veryangry:... Another high silver signal... a big iron ring too big to get out... and to make matters worse the site was really filled with iron, normal trash like pulltabs and foil was minimal, and I always dig those signals anyways in case the signal turns out to be gold jewelry or platinum.

Another thing that bothers me is that you get a good signal and then disappears, you dig and it's iron, we all have to suffer through those I guess...

:rage: ROOTS!!! Argh! I hate them! EVERYTIME I got a good signal a big thick 3-4" thick root was there, I did however saw them off with my Lesche digging tool, nonetheless I've got my hands all messed up from it, but I did get to the targets... iron...

I managed to get about $3 in change, not too bad considering $1 came from the same hole but it's certainly nothing to brag about, and I got a lot of would be wheat cents, they were one or two dates from being wheatback... but I'm super disappointed... I thought this site at least would give me SOME degree of old coins, but alas! No old coins! I wonder why?? And I tried he 5" coil, too bad I used it only for about 15 minutes, before I gave up from being tired, and I did end up with a lot of cuts on my left hand, two from my digging tool and about 7 from rose bushes and the leaves that fell from a big tree which had tiny thorns on the outer edges of them.

I took some pics for you to see how the school is I'll post them later), the ground I have to tell you was great to work with AND I finally perfected pinpointing on single targets (I wonder why I didn't try the recommended method of pinpointing Minelab suggested at first?! :lmfao:, it's SO EASY!!!). I don't complain, it was a frustrating yet fun day, hey, you win some you lose some, I do need some pointers on deep targets and how to tell while you're digging them if they will tun out to be iron/trash and perhaps how to pinpoint a single target that's near other targets.

I'll probably go next Saturday or Sunday, or maybe the 1st weekend of February, I know there has to be something there, I just know!

Well sorry to disappoint you guys, but perhaps next time...

Just for the record, my settings were:

Sensitivity: 23 Semi-Auto (for some reason it kept stable only in S.A.)
Audio Response: Normal
IM: 16
Recovery: FAST & DEEP (both ON). [I think having both on probably made me miss some targets by chopping off the signal... I just learned that...]
Threshold Tone: 5
Threshold: Barely Audible
Volume: 10
Gain: 7
Variability: 10
Limits: Max
Sound: Ferrous

I would say it has been detected before. There should still be some deep stuff. Slow down and dig those deep signals. Good luck

I agree, it probably has been hunted, although the principal says he has denied all that asked in the 10+ years he has been there, so perhaps someone did hunt it... so much for a virgin site, I do still think, however, that this site MIGHT be untouched, I only ended up with $3 in clad, I'm assuming the front part (the only part I hunted) has maybe been under cement the past few years? And the backyard of the school is the one that was used?? I don't know, I must research a bit on this to know exactly were people gathered... This might take time, if someone finds (stumbles) anything please let me know.

Sorry to hear about the lack of older and silver coin's Ace. For some reason I sort of thought all schools funded with public money were more or less open to hunt if one asked the school superintendent. I know most are closed to detecting, rule of thumb 6 to 6 and during any activities. That leaves weekends or summer to hunt them. I know I checked a couple of them in Riverside and was told O.K. and talking to grounds people there they hadn't really seen anybody to speak of detecting. I would bet your school definitely has been gone over before with permission given by a former principal or superintendent. Try Central by the College, I pulled wheat's and silver last trip there this past summer.
