Got skunked by my Dad!!

Well I made the second trip to the old abandoned home site, this times armed with all my coils for the LTD. Last week I found a 64 Rosie using the 6.5 concentric. Today I searched an area about 25 X 30 feet this time using the 5"DD and then the 10" concentric. This site is loaded with junk, I was methodically working the small area with all my coils and not having much luck finding 3 more copper memorials with the 5"DD and 3 more plus 1 nickel with the 10" concentric, when I noticed my dad, who was bored with me working the same area, about 200 yards away down by the dirt road under an old tree near the ditch. In a minute he came walking up all cocky and showed me the coin he found. It was a 2 francs, after I regained my composure I asked him what the ID was and he said he didn't even run his detector over it, he just saw it sticking up out of the ground, which was good for him because he has trouble bending at hates to have to dig. What in the world is a 1924 2 francs doing out in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma?? I got skunked by my dad and all he used was his 83 year old eye balls. It is a nice coin and just goes to show, in this hobby you can find just about anything just about anywhere. I was really happy he found the coin because my mom is always giving him a hard time about not finding anything. OH I did run my LTD over the coin and it registered at 60, I looked it up and it is made of aluminum/bronze. HH Randy

That is really cool iskirkra,I get suprised sometimes from starring at the ground for hours at a time, never know what might be just laying there on top! Take advantage of still being able to enjoy the hobby with your father.I once found a portugal coin stuck to my shoe in pine sap!!! hh rick in mi.

[size=large]Your dad hunts the old fashion way. I used to do the same when i was working. My company was next door to an old movie drive-in.
During lunch or after work i'd walk around the humps and look for coins. I was told in nature only man-made objects are perfectly round. So i would just walk around gazing at the ground. Not focusjng. Just like the atrwork in the 90's. you had to look but not focus and the picture would come out. The same with coins.your eye just catches something round cause it ain't natural If ya have any of those drive-ins still around grab dad and go coin shooting there with your eyes.
ya only need a litter grabber device. most times there's no bending. just an other way to treasure hunt.

Yesterday, I was out detecting for approx. 4hrs. with my LTD!! While digging a target, i happened to glance to my right, and SPOTTED a penny under
a FLATTENED/BEAT-UP water bottle!! After retreiving the buried target, I walked over about 10ft. to retreive the penny from under the water bottle. As I
got close to it, I NOTICED that there was several coins INSIDE the FLATTEDED OUT water bottle!! One DIME, and Five PENNIES, henceforth
A C-A-C-H-E!! HH, Les Robinson

it makes me wonder how many goodies I have walked right over that were on top of the ground while I was busy watching the TID on the screen?? It is a lot of fun, the best hobby I have ever had. HH Randy

It's all good enjoy......hh.........Dan
