Got the Deus and took it out for a short spin

Now comes the questions. I used it for a couple hours in a old park i have hit over the years and used Basic 1 and up the disc to 40 and used the 4 tones and tried the pumping ground balance which come up at 78 after diging so many rusty bottle caps as this detector just loves them as I had 20 of them and some can slaw and 2 new quarters and 1 new dime, so wondering if anyone else has this problem and how they set thiers up to get rid of them. These mostly hit at 86-89 and gave a very repeatable tone. I read where some say when sweeping the coil over then and pulling it to the edge of the signal it will break up or sound distorted which some did and some didnt and the 3 coins I found I almost didnt dig at it was a double beep being so close to the surface, so i8 see when I get one of these signals I have to raise the coil up a little and then they gave a good signal.
I have worked this park with my Sovereign,Explorer and E-Trac and never seen this many rusty bottle caps before.
Still learning and the only way is ask questions and experience by actually using it in the feild, so got to use it more and ask a few questions.

Thanks for any ideas.

Rick

I am still trying to rid of bottle caps; Basic 1 is a low tuned program, not much depth. Basic 2 is a bit stronger.
The ground mineralization here is at about 85. This program works fairly stable and quiet for me. I also get good depth. Try these settings;

Ground balance; tracking in stable ground.
DICS 45
PRESS EXPERT ON DISC. AND SET 3 TONES, ADJUST TONE 1; 0 TO 45 TONE 2; 45 TO 69
SENS 87
FREQ 11.7
IRON VOL 0
REACTIVITY 2
SILENCER 3
AUDIO RESPONSE 4
When the tip of the coil gets close to a larger piece of iron you will get a semi good signal, or chirp. When you hear this check another 5 to 12 inches in front of the coil to see if it changes to a solid iron signal and the chirp disappears. Look on the left side of the horse shoe on the left side of the screen to check the iron signal. You won

Tried notch? Different program frequencies will separate coin ids from bottle caps I believe. Its all in the conductivity scale. It was posted earlier.

Rick,

The Gold Bug SE I had also had a penchant for bottle caps, IDing them in the quarter range on the scale. One trick I read to try to help out with IDing bottle caps with the GB, is when you get a ID in that range, to bob the coil over the target. Bottle caps would break up and start to ID all over the range, some going into the iron range if they were rusty, whereas quarters would stay in the 85-89 range.

Did not work 100% of the time, since bottle caps are made up of all sorts of stuff, some being aluminum. Just wondering if the Deus would target ID caps when bobbing the coil over the target, the same way, with the ID not in a very narrow range.

hi
turn the iron volume up and you will hear the iron in the signal if alot of shallow stuff you can put it at 2 if encountering deeper iron turn higher and you can hear the iron on the edges of signal and edge of coil also by dropping the audio to 2 you will get better signal rec and it wont be so loud also gives a better idea of the depth the audio signal is giving
give this a try if you fancy i use it on new ground i am detecting to suss it out as it picks up realy small and goes deep even with the bigger coil it gets lead pellets and adjust the reactivity if in hectic areas also aventualy you can suss where you want to put the second tone after adding a third
hope it helps, loads of peeps are liking this program and its a great base to work from the disc may seem low but trust me with the iv you will hear its iron and any small fiddly jewelry will be yours lol

Basic 1
Sensitivity 87
Freq 11.4
Iron vol 3
Reactivity 2
Silencer 2
Audio Response 2
2 Tone tone 1(200) tone 2 (702)
TX power2
Disc 5.5

the ground i usualy have it around 4 less than manual indicater most of the time as you can sneek a bit more depth but signal sound may loos there clear sharpness but you get your ear in after a while, on quieter ground i have been able to push sens to 93 with the od sparky sound, if you are on a bizy site you can lower the sens quite a bit more than 87 for better signal rec also if this is sparky on your site straight away just lower sens a bit and adjust ground balance

ps the second tone after a while you will realy find it does have audio variables for conductive targets n after a while you should find you can almost guess some targets like foil n lead etc
good luck n have fun :)

Hello Rick..!

Are you up for a bit of fiddling with your DEUS ?

Based on coin data from one of the lads on this forum, I've created a 3 notch set-up

That should in theory capture most US coins, except for nickles.

The hope is that the settings will knock-out a chunk of the bottle-caps that bother you.

The most important point in this set-up is the mandatory use of 4 KHz.

If you can modify one of the custom programs most suited to coins, and make sure the

search-frequency is set to 4 KHz., then it will be interesting to see how it performs.

Try also to set your ground according to the Deus's GB readings...AND keep your sens. about 80.

Matt...

Hello again Rick.....sorry for the omission of the 'table' in the original post.

I was rushing to do some taxiing for my grand-children, who wanted to go to the cinema,

when I hastily posted it without creating the link.

Here it is....hope it makes sense.....The basic aim being to collect as many US coins whilst rejecting bottle caps.

NOTE the 4 KHz proviso....Any comments apppreciated......Matt

I think I understand what you are saying with the chart you did up. Looks like you are using 4 KHz and all 3 notches, but have to read up on setting these up and trying to do it for the first time which is usually harder until you have done it a few times. I think I am going to turn up the iron audio too as I believe the basic is at 0, this way maybe I will hear the iron in the rusty crown caps more and be able to reject them better.
I am sure it is going to take some time to get used to this detector and the best way is using it and digging the targets until I get more experience with it. This is the way it was with my Sovereign and E-Trac as i felt i made a big mistake buying the Sovereign the first few time out, but once I used it and got to know it I found it to be a excellent detector. I feel the Dues will be the same way too, just go to use it and get the experience with it.

Thanks for the info and we will try it next time out.
