Got to hunt about "half" the day

With the lack of rain in our water shed for our lake, it has now gotten low enough for us to be able to walk to one of the islands, what was previously an area that we couldn't reach without a boat, now became a 1.5 mile on way walk. I was excited to get out there the prospect of new ground is great, plus this was a high point on the river back in the 1800's and before with signs of very old bottle dump site and my hunting partner said they had found 1800's coins years ago when they came in by boat.

Started out on the walk at daylight, of a very windy day. There was a low chance of storms in the morning, so we decided to go anyway. After about two hours the sky hard darkened and looked very blue. We decided to walk half way back to the truck in case it got bad, still on the island, but closer to the truck. When we got there it began to rain, then hail, we had to deploy the use of emergency trash bags to cover out detectors. Also with no where to shelter ourselves from the rain and hail all we could do is turn our backs to it and wait. We could see daylight from under the storm and wanted to try to wait it out.

Up to this point I hadn't found much, a few coins and a silver toe ring, my hunting partner had found a few coins as well. After the storm we regrouped and decided to stay on that end of the island, since the entire thing was good and a summer hot spot for boaters. I started back into my search and hasn't hardly made it 10 feet when I found something I had never found before, 1941 walker, I really couldn't believe it. It was all dirty and corroded from the wet sand, I had to wash it off to tell what it even was. To our surprise we found 3 half dollars that day, which we thought was unusual at best, mine being the only silver one. Shortly after that i found a nice silver mans ring. Also the gold totals were low, only one 10k ear ring. Together we found 150 coins 5 silver toe rings, 2 silver rings, and more pull tabs that you could carry in a bucket.

WOW! What a great adventure and finds! Theres some stuff there...that sandbar, was the main party raft up drinking spot for a long time...certainly holds gold too! Thats some really old ground there! Excellent post and hunt!:clapping:

I know I can't wait to get back out there, it would take a month straight to hunt it completely, maybe longer. It reminds me of my trip to Florida, so much beach you just don't know where to start. And yes with that much boating activity there has to be good gold there for sure, we just didnt get over any of it that day.

Well...You know what you are doing with your rig, so I am sure something big and goldish awaits! might be a big chain that sounds like high iron/foil and a very crappy signal...

I did get to air test a 15 gram 14k men's class ring and it came in at a solid 54-56 depending on the distance from the coil, also a 14k woman's class ring 51-53 on the F70. Those are the largest pieces of gold I have ever been able to put under my coil. Thought that information would be good. There was so many tabs out there, I ended up only digging the ones that were repeatable. I don't know what else to do, there were 3-4 tabs every swing in some places. Had to raise the coil and try to pick any good signals out of the junk.

Well...you simply Must dig all the weak foil signals! Thats where all those little womens 3gr rings will be hiding.....and you have to dig the 37ish group for the mens wedding bands...and you absolutely have to dig the weak and crappy non-solid signals for chains...even silver ones can hide in midtone...

Forget those strong hitters!, well dont forget them...but if its that thick of a place with tabs, you sort of got to disregard and get all the other signals above and below that signature....thats where DP tones come in handy...so your eyes dont have to watch the screen all the time and get tired out...dang! Very excited for you...! Theres gold there by gosh! And nobody has hunted that place for the old silver halfs to be there!

Heck, if all you dig is tabs and foil in there you WILL find gold...or at least every signal 60 on down...but specifically 21 up to 42....there MAY be a gold coin in there! sit tight, I'm packing! poo! thats a long drive! :sadwalk:

I know but the spring rains are on there way, and the lake will return. Then I will need to save money for a boat lol. We might have a couple weeks before the water returns if we are lucky.

Well, maybe find the trashiest spot and just work it for old glory, and then move on to another...where theres tabs, thats where the girls were...guys dont tear off tabs, we have too much respect for engineering...but where the girls were, the guys were, fighting and throwing things and drinking... and maybe one of them sported a monster chain!

Looking at your coin finds again...you are just a tad nickel poor for that count...think nickels! Sorry, cant help it! That there spot could make your entire season on gold finds!

I will try that, I was thinking about taking vacation to get back out there. There are so many huge boats on our lake in the summer, people come up from Dallas area with all there money and bling, head out to the islands and get drunk and party all weekend. There are stories around of 5-6k people on one island during a weekend. I have seen videos and I am thinking man, they must have lost a ton of jewlery.

Oh Man! I'm about to pass out! :stretcher:

OK, Ok...lets think on how to narrow down this place a little for you...sheesh...each and every find is gonna tell you something...Its a lake, so theres not much current I suppose,
that toe ring is a huge sign...guys dont wear toe rings, at least not in Texas...the earring too...hunt the girls, and you will find the gold..I talked to my sister, she lives up near the Woodlands...I got a place to stay, but I dont think i can take the heat...can you hunt that place at night? take water and food and just hunt that place nice and steady? You got a good fast scoop? It might be the game changer in a situation like this...

Right now I use a sharp shooter shovel, some of our beaches have clay and you need a shovel to dig. Yes you could hunt at night, the only problem I will have is getting out there. I suppose I could alway wade through the water to get there later. This island isn't the hot spot that I had spoke of earlier, that island is a mile or so away, but it's still good, really good. I can't wait to get back out there. I would be out there today if I didn't have a eye doctor appointment.
