With the lack of rain in our water shed for our lake, it has now gotten low enough for us to be able to walk to one of the islands, what was previously an area that we couldn't reach without a boat, now became a 1.5 mile on way walk. I was excited to get out there the prospect of new ground is great, plus this was a high point on the river back in the 1800's and before with signs of very old bottle dump site and my hunting partner said they had found 1800's coins years ago when they came in by boat.
Started out on the walk at daylight, of a very windy day. There was a low chance of storms in the morning, so we decided to go anyway. After about two hours the sky hard darkened and looked very blue. We decided to walk half way back to the truck in case it got bad, still on the island, but closer to the truck. When we got there it began to rain, then hail, we had to deploy the use of emergency trash bags to cover out detectors. Also with no where to shelter ourselves from the rain and hail all we could do is turn our backs to it and wait. We could see daylight from under the storm and wanted to try to wait it out.
Up to this point I hadn't found much, a few coins and a silver toe ring, my hunting partner had found a few coins as well. After the storm we regrouped and decided to stay on that end of the island, since the entire thing was good and a summer hot spot for boaters. I started back into my search and hasn't hardly made it 10 feet when I found something I had never found before, 1941 walker, I really couldn't believe it. It was all dirty and corroded from the wet sand, I had to wash it off to tell what it even was. To our surprise we found 3 half dollars that day, which we thought was unusual at best, mine being the only silver one. Shortly after that i found a nice silver mans ring. Also the gold totals were low, only one 10k ear ring. Together we found 150 coins 5 silver toe rings, 2 silver rings, and more pull tabs that you could carry in a bucket.
