Grey Ghost headphones - painful to wear?

After much deliberation I decided to buy some Grey Ghost deep woods head phones. I just received them today. I tried them on, and they are incredibly tight on my head. I adjusted them to sit high, med, and low on my ears, but they still clamp down very hard to a degree where it is uncomfortable. In fact, it put enough pressure in that soft area where my jaw meets my neck, sort of where your glands are that I feel nauseus. I probably did not wear them more than 3 minutes and I feel this way. I'm a bit shocked. I understand that they are supposed fit snugly to help keep outside noise out, but these things fit like the ear muff I got for target practice with my gun. I am used to the Koss head phones that stay on your head loosely, and the band up top is what keeps it on your head, rather than the clamp strength.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do all detector built headphones do this? Do they break in or become a bit looser? I'm not sure given the discomfort, and my bodies quick negative reaction to the pressure I can wait for a long break in period. I can pay shipping and return them, but then I'm back where I started with Koss headphones with a fray wire at the 1/4" connector. Any of the other brand names clamp a little less or fit more like the Koss headphones?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I had problems with my jaw hurting after using that style of headphone of any brand so I switched to the tank style and have been very happy. The only tank style Ive seen for a while is the killer B they are good headphones and have plenty of ear room as well as not pinching your noggin.

I'm not sure what you mean by tank style. Can you list some make and models that are like that?

I'm starting to think that if I purchase any model that refers to fitting snug and blocking out XX amount of decibals will probably pinch pretty well and may not be what I want. I don't have too much of an issue of outside noise getting in the way.

So I used a little heat from a heat gun, not too much mind you, to get the plastic to give a little. Then once I got it to move a little I held it until it stayed in the position that was most comfortable for me. Just be careful you don't use too much heat or you could end up with the opposite problem of headphones too loose.

Here is the tank style, its the shape of the cuff. Like an army tanker would wear. These are Killer B Hornets. They are great and not snug at all.

The "tank" style Killer B's are called the Hornet's. The are awesome!

well, I ended up placing the headphones over the couch in a way such that they were stretched almost to the max. I left them like that for perhaps 15 minutes and then tried them on. No discomfort, I was able to detect for an hour without any issues. Problem solved. Thanks all who responded.
