ground penetration with the Excal

My question is, in the disc mode the signal that the coil puts out is shaped like a cylinder. When you switch to all metal (pinpoint) mode, does the signal that goes into the ground remain cylinder shaped, OR does it go to cone shape.

Probably a pretty weird question, but I was curious.

Thanks

Paul

The transmit side of the coil produces the same shape magnetic field in both modes.
It is not cylinder shaped, but more like a very tall doughnut........much like a concentric, but distorted by the non-circular shape of the transmit loop.
The field of detection is in the overlap between the recieve side of the coil and the transmit side , producing a "stripe" of detection area. It will taper down with depth and be the deepest right at the center of the coil. It is more of a shovel shape.
