GTA 500 search coil

Hi,
I have a GTA 500 detector. No matter what I do, sweep it, raise it in the air, change batteries, reset to factory settings....it signals constantly on everything. It is possible there is a short in the connector portion of the wire to the detector itself. Can this be fixed or do I need a new searchcoil. Please help, any will be appreciated.
thank you
Roger

It would help if you could borrow a known good coil.
Lacking that I would send it in, if it is the coil Garrett can either repair it or replace it with a reconditioned coil. They replaced my cracked and scrapped coil with a reconditioned one for about $25 when my 1000 fritz'd while wade-hunting.
Good Luck,
Skillet

Are you getting an overload signal? If you are, it is most likely the coil. Follow Skillets suggestion and find a loaner coil or just send it to Garrett. They are great with their customer support. I sent in a bad coil and they sent me a brand new one and a lower stem and hardware for free. Can't beat a deal like that.

thank you both for your information and advice. I do appreciate it.
thanks again,
Roger
