Hi All,
I have bought a used 550. I have noticed the following :
If I am using the unit normally, then press "SET DEPTH" to set depth, then press it again to go back to hunt mode.
THEN if I pass a quarter/dime (something that sounds the belltone) under the coil THE FIRST TIME IT INDICATES it shows a long bar of lcd markers - the same as what the depth was set to!!
Its not serious though - as the 2nd sweep it returns to normal...
is this correct? do all 550s do this?

doing the exact same thing. I also have had my indicator to not even come up, and have a belltone. I sent it back to Garrett. They re-calibrated it, and it still does it sometimes. They said it could be Junk targets or a very deep signal. Have you ever had this problem?
