gti 1500 help

hi bill, yes to you it is.its the 1920 old English copper coin,it doesn't show up on the preset coin notches on the gti 1500.it jumps about right at the bottom anywhere between 0 and 2.also noted a big silver old half crown which is 32mm wide 90 percent silver i think makes an awful noise a constant noise like a road jack digger.nothing like the noise of other coins and the bell tone.I'm that used to the 250.

That awful noise you described sounds like an overload signal. Assuming you're bench testing, try moving that coin farther away from the coil. Any 90% coin should lock hard somewhere in the coins range.

hi bill,i have tried testing the noise of the coins and the signal strength with the coil disconnected from the detector facing up.i have also tried with the coil connected.i am getting different signal strengths between the two.also some of the English money doesn't fall in to the preset coins mode.i know Garrett is American,do i have to add notches for English coins.i didn't on the ace 250.one other thing when i put an old copper English penny over i get the high bell tone prob a nine signal, but if i try another English penny it falls out of your preset American range prob a 2.these coins are in the 1920s and copper.could it be the oxidization on one of the coins that give it a high readout and not the other.my last question is could it be a faulty coil or the machine needs something done to it.how would i know if the coil had gone.thanks Nigel

The 1500 is programmed for American coins only so you will have to test the available coins in your area to see where they read on the scale and the 1500 is much more sophisticated than the 250 so it won't perform like the 250. It's a breed all its own and must be treated as such. Oxidation or corrosion can change the read out on many coins as can compostion of the coins which is often changed by the Mint ever so often. I wish Garrett could program their detectors for the coins in the country they are sold in but doubt that it would be cost effective. Contact Garrett to see what they think and if a new coil is needed. Contact Melinda at

Hi bill, I'm placing coins about six inches from coil.going out tnite and giving the detector another go. I will master it if it takes me bloody years lol

You'll get it soon. The 1500 has a bit of a learning curve so hang in there. It's one of the best coinshooters made. Good luck. If you have any problems you know where to come. It's best to hunt with the coil about an inch or so off the ground. The GTI coils don't take to scrubbing to well.. Don't tip your coil at the end of your swing or you'll get a false signal.
