GTI 1500 question............trashy locations

Went to a couple locations over the weekend that had a lot of trash in the ground. My detector couldn't lock on any good targets. I use the "coins" preset setting for sensitivity. Would lowering this setting help lock on better targets ? How low would you go ? I know about the different coils available but is there a better setting for the this detector ?

I thought we discussed this over and over. Don't start out with anything "preset". As I have repeated over and over - start hunting with any GTI with the sensitivity set at 6 or 6.5 and leave it there for the next 100 hours or so until you have figured out how your machine works. The prime requisite to detecting - you have to be smarter than the detector.

I move my settings around quite a bit especially sensitivity. I generally hunt with it set at 8 but go as low as 6 and as high as 11 depending on the site. UW is a big fan of using lower sensitivity of around 6.5. The only way to hunt a super trashy site is with a sniper coil in, my opinion. If there are just too many pop tops then notch them out. Just realize all you'll get are coins and silver jewelry as this notches out most gold too. I try to always keep the tow notches around nickel on at a minimum toward the lower end of the scale.

Just dig it all and learn your machine. Ive dug multiple items under my large 12.5 coil which it saw then and imaged them all as I slowly moved the coil. Practice....

I hunt with the 1350 in the zero disc mode and sensitivity around 6 - 6.5, sweep slow.:garrett:

Unfortunately, the only real way to get a lock on good targets with the GTI in this situation, is to either use the sniper coil or the Scorcher coil. Other than that, lower your sensitivity and fully open up your discrimination (all metal). You may find the amount of signals you get, a bit much, but the GTI already has a slow recovery speed due to the imaging and the last thing that you want to do is slow it down further by discing out targets.

If you're using the stock coil in trashy areas lower the sensitivity to about 6 and raise the coil up about two inhes above the ground to narrow the signal cone and scan very slow and listen for a hint of the belltone. When you hit a belltone center the coil over that area and move it side to side about an inch each way to isolate the target. It takes a bit of patience but finds the goodies. Impatience is the bane of many coinshooters.
