Hi,received my gti1500 today, had a ace 250 before.run that for about 120 hrs.Had a big shock when i tried the gti.I think i have alot of learning to do.Its nothing like my ace, been practising with different coins. The gti didnt seem to respond as good to old copper coins and the silver gave a low trashy signal like a tin can.I guess i need to learn the sounds like the 250.Idont seem to hear that distinctive belltone on a coin like i did on the ace.I have it set on belltone.Anybody got any advice.Cheers.

Hi Topman

You and I are in the same basic boat.. See my post dated 10-8-09 GTI1500 HELP
Ive had fair success with the GTI on coins tokens .. My biggest problem with
the GTI is figuring out what a good target is based on the sound and the way the
cursor moves.
I feel like im missing good targets because of that. Ill keep reading replys to your
posting and maybe you might get some help with the answers i get on mine.
Good Hunting

Ron

cheers Ron,i can read everything the ace is telling me ninety percent of the time.but I'm bloody lost at mo with the sounds the gti is giving out.i will have to keep practising till i get used to it.i couldn't hear the bell tone noise of a coin when practising.that's what is worrying me.

It IS a lot softer ( Duller ?) than the belltone on the Ace. I wish they could
put the same belltone on GTI. Anway good hunting and keep in touch. Maybe as we
get better we can help each other out

hey guys, i have a 1500 and an ace250. i like both machines, but i almost always use the 1500. the profiling is a great feature and can help decide which target to dig or not. it does take practice and a while to learn. as far as set up i usually always run in jewelry mode with sensitivity set at 6.0-6.5 that eliminates alot of false signaling. i also use headphones and a propointer to help recover targets. uncle willy always recommends to be sure to center target in coil so the profiling is accurate and pinpointing is accurate. swing speed should be a little slower as there is a whole lot more information being generated to be processed. when i started out with it, i was frustrated at times but you learn as you go. i do not dig many bouncing signals, that does not mean i am right by doing so. some have been good, but most not. if you get a coin belltone and the profile says it is a c, d,e, move your coil while pinpointing and size may change to a b. work with it and i think you will really come to appreciate the 1500

hi i have been bench testing just now,all the silver coins in coin mode show up fine.i have noticed though old copper coins keep showing between 1 and ahalf then 2 and a half.then sometimes 9 and a half.cant work it out

why in coins mode, does a copper coin sometimes not ring.it shows under 3 and ahalf sometimes.i am talking about an old English one penny.

on my problems

pennies show up all over the place. a lot of times a penny reading with a belltone turns out to be a dime.

Copper and silver should give you a belltone! Make sure you have belltone turned on and not some other setting like two tone. Also was the coins on the ground? If so you may have been picking up something in the ground also. The 1500 is a awesome detector I found tons of silver and copper coins with it.
Take your time! Once you get better at running it you'll never want anything else. The Imaging will spoil you.

Set your sensitivity at 6 or 6.5 for awhile. Scan slow as the 1500 has a lot of information to process. Correct centering of the target when pinpointing is absolutely critical for accurate readings. When pinpointing watch the signal strength indicator at the top of the display. When the cursors are lined up all the way across - the target is centered and will be in the center of the small hole in the coil. Quarters will often read as pennies until you move the coil around slightly to get exact center then the readingwill change to quarter. All silver should belltone unless it's beat up or cruddy.
