GTI 2500 Getting Started

I've now read the manual twice but without the detector in front of me it isn't completely helpful. It arrived in town tonight so it will be out for delivery tomorrow.

Any of you GTI 2500 users have suggestions as to how I should run the detector my first trip or two out? It will be primarily coin territory but I've found both silver and gold there. Not too trashy. I am thinking coin or jewelry mode with stock coil. Not sure about sensitivity, and what other features I should definitely have tuned on, or definitely turned off. I am overwhelmed reading about some of the features and adjustments most of which I have never heard of using the Ace 250. The manual has very few photos and I'm sure the dvd will help as it did with the 250.

Does pinpoint work similar to the 250? I don't recall who wrote the post about centering target side to side then pulling back til it zeroes but that system has worked miracles for me.

I reckon a little trial and error is called for but if there are any pitfalls you experts can help me avoid it will, as always, be appreciated.

Never fear. My trusty Ace 250 will be close at hand. Gotta get the last 8 hours out of the last set of batteries I put in her anyhow!

I semi recall being overwhelmed with the 250 for about 2 days. Had a heck of a time pinpointing. I was digging huge holes to find everything and actually used my old Bounty Hunter to pinpoint at first. Then all of a sudden click and the coins and jewelry began to pile up!

Run in coin mode for a good many hours. Set your sensitivity at about 6.5 and leave it there for awhile until you become familiar with how it works. Pinpointing with the 2500 is deadly. When you scan side to side and back and forth the strongest signal will wind up right in the center of the coil. AS you are centering the target watch the cursors at the top of the display ( signal strength indicator ) and when they line up all the way across - the target will be under the small hole in the center of the coil. Just take your time and scan slow with the coil off the ground. Leave all metal alone until you have at least 100 hours on the machine. Centering your targets correctly is absolutely essential for correct ID, image, and depth. If you get sloppy they will all be sloppy. The 2500 does not pinpoint like the 250 Good luck.
