GTI1500 finds gold ring

Dont normally hunt for rings, but today decided to dig every signal at local footy park - within first hour found 9ct gold ring 3 inches down.

Will have to change my approach to md, normally I only hunt coins, who wants to dig up bucket loads of trash! I think I would like to dig up more trash if this is the result...or was I just lucky?

I am not a coin hunter and am well acquainted with all kinds of trash
in the ground searching for gold jewelry..
Were you lucky ? No, I don't think so. What made you dig this signal ?
Bet you were glad you dug it and just maybe you will change your mind
a little in what you may or may not dig. I am curious though, how did this
ring read on your GTI1500 and what size did the imaging show ?
Never used a GTI myself but I know from all accounts it's a fine detector.
Nice going on the ring as I know it surely made your day when you saw it !
Good hunting to you ! Gene

Ring came up as 5 on the id and size B (coin sized) - I just decided to dig up all signals from 3 upwards that were size B - and I was using 12.5' imaging coil - who says you need to use a small coil in trashy areas!

Thanks for the answer Blake. That's a nice fat gold ring to hit upscale like that.
B size too. Don't have a GTI but I think that a lot of tabs probably hit on 4.5
You can check me out on that one. Now 5 would be something different and
being B sized I would be digging too. I like digging things that read different
than the common trash I come across. You must really have that 12 1/2" coil
figured out as you sure nailed this one. I am impressed. Mighty fine ring !
I hope you find many more. Gene

Alright!:clapping:Nice goin!:thumbup:Congrats on the gold!:cheers:Ya' gotta dig the trash to get some goodies.:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

I have a ??? Maybe I missed someting in the video or
manual BUT when u refer to 5 4.5 etc is that the #s
on the bottom sclae that also show depth when pinpointing??

Tks

ron

Cool Ring,

I pay attention to nickels and dimes, have also hit rings on quarter! GTP1350! I also dig weird signals from time to time to make sure my machine aint fibbing me lol.

Ron

GTI 1500, 2500 etc display changes when in pinpoint mode, scale reads left to right, when all segments show coil is centered over target, but target id still blinks.

Luck. Well, luck is often what you make it. Being in th right place is at least half the battle ...

Bit Gene hits on a key point - what was it about that particular signal that made you dig it?
That is the answer you need to get.

I couldn't agree with you more David. You can't find it if it isn't there and
you are not going to find it if you don't dig it. Now what was it that made
you dig that signal ? Think back and try to remember Blake. Did it sound different
to you ? Was there something unusual or different on your display ?
Must have been something.....sure would like to know why you dug it.
Maybe it was just a feeling, or was it something else ? This could be something
really important but only if you know why you dug it. I am looking forward to
your answer. I really am.

Set out today with one goal in mind - dig EVERY SIGNAL above id of 3 and B sized - simple as that! I think thats the only way to make sure the one signal you pass up is not Gold! Unfortunately that means a lot of trash - Still cant believe in this technological age we cant find a way to distinguish gold from trash. Maybe us humans are not so clever after all....

Digging weird signals, different than your normal trash signals, for a particular site
can be a good thing I am thinking. One day, when you least expect it, you will come
on here with a story of what you have found by doing just that. I will be expecting that
to happen. Good hunting to you Rick ! Gene

That's a good plan Blake. You definitely will be an expert at target retrieval.
If I go to a new place I will start off digging like that until I get a good feel for
the common trash in the area. From then on I will do a little more selective
digging. At least you have it all sized up for you automatically with the GTI1500.
Yeah, I have to agree with you, there is a lot of trash that tries to masquerade as
gold jewelry. Some things do a better job than others. As soon as someone
comes out with a detector that can tell gold jewelry from trash I will put my order
in for one. Not holding my breath on that one though..HH......Gene

Congrats on the gold ring.
Old style design likely mid century loss.

I wonder if I may be too keen on knowing, as opposed to just digging when it comes to gold jewelry.
Digging everything is indeed a plan, but not one that has suited me. I, too, think that in age when we can go to the moon or create a computer that fits in your phone, well... we should be able to make a detector to help with this trash vs. treasure business.
Sizing is a step in the right direction, I suppose. One I will have to spend some time exploring - we live and get better, after all.

Good luck!

Yeah I thought this contest was short term but guess Vaughan is going to run it forever and keep giving PP's away.
